# Adyen Targets Up to 1,100 New Staff in 2026 as It Lowers Its Margin Goal

Two targets now sit side by side. For the full year, interim CFO Hwa Tsao's prepared remarks still put underlying hiring at [550 to 650 net-new hires on an underlying basis](https://brand.adyen.com/api/asset/eyJjbGllbnRJZCI6bnVsbCwiaWQiOjE0NzUwOSwidGltZXN0YW1wIjoxNzkzMTc3ODM5LCJ2ZXJzaW9uIjoxNzkzMTc3ODM1fQ:adyen:W8c6ztVo-QbPUT0kc06ygd7XySPDZ8kt8nyG-73WhGs/download). The year-to-date count on the underlying basis stood at [426 year-to-date](https://brand.adyen.com/api/asset/eyJjbGllbnRJZCI6bnVsbCwiaWQiOjE0NzUwOSwidGltZXN0YW1wIjoxNzkzMTc3ODM5LCJ2ZXJzaW9uIjoxNzkzMTc3ODM1fQ:adyen:W8c6ztVo-QbPUT0kc06ygd7XySPDZ8kt8nyG-73WhGs/download) after the third quarter. So the [as many as 1,100](https://www.pymnts.com/earnings/2026/adyen-adds-1100-tech-and-sales-hires-to-capture-growth-opportunities/) figure is the top of a full-year range for 2026, and it counts the acquired staff and the people already added this year as well as hiring still to come. Tsao gave the figures on [Wednesday (Oct. 28)](https://www.pymnts.com/earnings/2026/adyen-adds-1100-tech-and-sales-hires-to-capture-growth-opportunities/) in prepared remarks for the earnings call.

## Why Did Adyen Lower Its Margin Target While Hiring More?

Adyen [now expects EBITDA margin of 50% in 2026](https://www.adyen.com/press-and-media/adyen-publishes-q3-2026-business-update-6r9vz0), and it is [discontinuing its medium-term EBITDA objective](https://www.adyen.com/press-and-media/adyen-publishes-q3-2026-business-update-6r9vz0) to retain flexibility.

The outlook in August was different. At that point, including Talon.One and Orb, Adyen expected 2026 EBITDA margin [one percentage point lower than 2025](https://www.adyen.com/press-and-media/adyen-publishes-h1-2026-financial-results-3wjne) and still expected [EBITDA margin above 55% by 2028](https://www.adyen.com/press-and-media/adyen-publishes-h1-2026-financial-results-3wjne).

Adyen's EBITDA margin was [53% in 2025](https://www.fxcintel.com/research/analysis/adyen-q3-2026-earnings), and its H1 projection for 2026 was [52%](https://www.fxcintel.com/research/analysis/adyen-q3-2026-earnings). Analysts at Degroof Petercam, a Belgian brokerage, called the shift a [nasty surprise](https://finimize.com/content/adyen-spooked-investors-with-a-surprise-margin-target-cut). The shares fell [about 12% in Amsterdam trading](https://finimize.com/content/adyen-spooked-investors-with-a-surprise-margin-target-cut) after the update.

The company links the change to demand. ## What Are Talon.One and Orb, and Why Do They Need More People?
