# Crusoe Has Hired 300+ Craft Workers in Tulsa to Build AI Data Center Parts, and It Is Still Growing

Crusoe has hired 300+ Tulsa craft workers, up from the 100 it first expected, to build AI data center switchgear. Which trade skills it hires and how to apply.

A new factory in Tulsa is one of the clearest signs yet that the AI boom is hiring people who work with their hands. [The Crusoe release on GlobeNewswire](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/14/3361418/0/en/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-manufacturing-facility-expanding-production-of-critical-ai-infrastructure-components.html) says the company has [hired more than 300 local craft workers to build these components across the two Tulsa sites, up from the 100 expected when the first facility opened in 2024](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/14/3361418/0/en/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-manufacturing-facility-expanding-production-of-critical-ai-infrastructure-components.html). Those workers build the heavy electrical gear that moves power through AI data centers, and this week the company opened a second building to make more of it. At [Metaintro](https://www.metaintro.com) we follow where hiring is actually happening, and the short answer here is simple. AI infrastructure is creating steady trade jobs in welding, fabrication and electrical assembly, and Crusoe is still recruiting in Tulsa.

That matters beyond one city. Most of the conversation about AI and work is about office jobs being automated. This story runs the other way. The chips and models get the headlines, but every data center also needs switchgear, busbar and steel enclosures, and somebody has to cut, bend, weld, wire and test them.

## What happened

Crusoe cut the ribbon on its new plant on Monday. [The Unite.AI writeup](https://www.unite.ai/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-plant-to-build-ai-data-center-components/) reports the second facility opened on [September 14, 2026, adding 400,000 square feet](https://www.unite.ai/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-plant-to-build-ai-data-center-components/) of production space. [Reporting at KJRH](https://www.kjrh.com/news/local-news/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-facility-sept-14-2026) places the new building [off Highway 169 and East 36th Street North](https://www.kjrh.com/news/local-news/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-facility-sept-14-2026), and says Crusoe [already operates a facility near 41st and Sheridan](https://www.kjrh.com/news/local-news/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-facility-sept-14-2026). With the new space, the company says its [national manufacturing footprint](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/14/3361418/0/en/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-manufacturing-facility-expanding-production-of-critical-ai-infrastructure-components.html) now reaches [roughly 1 million square feet](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/14/3361418/0/en/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-manufacturing-facility-expanding-production-of-critical-ai-infrastructure-components.html).

The work itself is industrial, not digital. [The company release](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/14/3361418/0/en/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-manufacturing-facility-expanding-production-of-critical-ai-infrastructure-components.html) lists [medium-voltage switchgear, low-voltage switchboards, electrical enclosures, industrial controls, and custom-fabricated copper busbar](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/14/3361418/0/en/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-manufacturing-facility-expanding-production-of-critical-ai-infrastructure-components.html) among the products. In [the News On 6 report](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs), co-founder Cully Cavness compared the equipment to [the breaker box found in a home](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs), only far larger and more sophisticated, and the station noted that [each data center can require thousands of pieces of equipment like these](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs). On the floor, workers move between stations [working with materials including sheet metal and copper components](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs) to build the systems.

Where that equipment ends up explains why the hiring grew so fast. [The GlobeNewswire release](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/14/3361418/0/en/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-manufacturing-facility-expanding-production-of-critical-ai-infrastructure-components.html) says the Tulsa output includes [more than 2,500 switchboards supplied to Crusoe's flagship Stargate Project site in Abilene, Texas](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/14/3361418/0/en/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-manufacturing-facility-expanding-production-of-critical-ai-infrastructure-components.html). Cavness told [News On 6](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs) that [some of the switchgear manufactured in Tulsa has already been shipped](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs) to Abilene.

The Tulsa story started much smaller. The [Oklahoma Department of Commerce announcement](https://www.okcommerce.gov/ai-company-crusoe-manufacturing-facility-in-tulsa/) of the first plant described a plan to [invest about $10 million into a new Tulsa manufacturing facility that will create 100 new jobs](https://www.okcommerce.gov/ai-company-crusoe-manufacturing-facility-in-tulsa/). Before that, Crusoe [already has a small team in Tulsa dedicated to repairing its tech and components used in the field](https://www.okcommerce.gov/ai-company-crusoe-manufacturing-facility-in-tulsa/), according to the same announcement, and the manufacturing operation was [expected to employ 100 people by year's end](https://www.okcommerce.gov/ai-company-crusoe-manufacturing-facility-in-tulsa/).

> The first Tulsa plant, at 5404 S. 122nd E. Ave., was planned to [encompass roughly 120,000 square feet](https://www.okcommerce.gov/ai-company-crusoe-manufacturing-facility-in-tulsa/) and make data center parts such as switchgear, according to the Oklahoma Department of Commerce.

Even at launch, the company hinted it wanted more people than it first announced. In [a local news account republished in the Crusoe newsroom](https://www.crusoe.ai/resources/newsroom/crusoe-tulsa-manufacturing-expansion), senior vice president of operations Ken Parker said the goal after the first 100 hires was to [up that to a couple hundred by next year](https://www.crusoe.ai/resources/newsroom/crusoe-tulsa-manufacturing-expansion), as fast as equipment could be installed and people trained. Cavness said in the same account that the jobs would run [from engineering to manufacturing to safety](https://www.crusoe.ai/resources/newsroom/crusoe-tulsa-manufacturing-expansion), and that those disciplines already existed in the city.

The headcount has now passed both of those early targets. In the release, Cavness said [we need more of those skilled hands here in Tulsa](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/14/3361418/0/en/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-manufacturing-facility-expanding-production-of-critical-ai-infrastructure-components.html), and welcomed [more than 300 full-time manufacturing staff in Tulsa to Crusoe's team of more than 1,800 employees and 15,000 skilled workers across our sites](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/14/3361418/0/en/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-manufacturing-facility-expanding-production-of-critical-ai-infrastructure-components.html).

> Crusoe says it [now employs more than 500 people across its manufacturing operations, including more than 300 in Tulsa](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs), according to News On 6.

The skills on that payroll are listed plainly. [The company release](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/14/3361418/0/en/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-manufacturing-facility-expanding-production-of-critical-ai-infrastructure-components.html) says the plants rely on local labor in [everything from engineering and welding to powder coating, fabrication, and electrical assembly](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/14/3361418/0/en/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-manufacturing-facility-expanding-production-of-critical-ai-infrastructure-components.html), with [every unit tested by the same team that built it](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/14/3361418/0/en/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-manufacturing-facility-expanding-production-of-critical-ai-infrastructure-components.html). That last detail matters for job seekers, because it means testing and quality roles sit on the same floor as the build roles.

The opening drew state and city leaders. [News On 6 reported](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs) that the ribbon cutting [brought together Gov. Kevin Stitt, Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols, county leaders and Crusoe officials](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs). Nichols told the station the jobs are [a great opportunity for young people in the future](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs), particularly those entering skilled trades. In the release, the governor said the expansion [supports more than 300 Oklahomans](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/14/3361418/0/en/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-manufacturing-facility-expanding-production-of-critical-ai-infrastructure-components.html).

The mayor placed the plant inside a longer shift in the local economy. [News On 6 reported](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs) that Nichols said the city's economy [has evolved from its roots in energy to major industries including aerospace, the space economy and now high-tech manufacturing](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs), and he called the Crusoe expansion another example of that diversification. For welders, fabricators and electrical workers in the region, that mix of industries means more than one kind of employer to target with the same skills.

## Where the coverage agrees, and where it splits

The accounts line up on the headline Tulsa headcount, even where their wording differs. [KJRH](https://www.kjrh.com/news/local-news/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-facility-sept-14-2026) says Crusoe [employs more than 300 skilled craft workers](https://www.kjrh.com/news/local-news/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-facility-sept-14-2026) between the two facilities, [News On 6](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs) counts [more than 500 people across its manufacturing operations, including more than 300 in Tulsa](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs), and [the Unite.AI writeup](https://www.unite.ai/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-plant-to-build-ai-data-center-components/) repeats that [more than 300 local craft workers now build those components across the two Tulsa sites](https://www.unite.ai/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-plant-to-build-ai-data-center-components/). The release, News On 6 and Unite.AI all describe a plant that builds electrical equipment, while the KJRH headline frames the new building differently, as the next paragraphs show.

The first split is about whether those jobs already exist. [The News On 6 report](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs) opens by saying Crusoe was [announcing plans to add more than 300 jobs](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs), but further down the same story says the company [has hired more than 300 people in Tulsa](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs). The primary document settles it. The release describes workers already hired, which means the figure is a headcount, not a pile of open positions waiting for applicants. The honest read for a job seeker is that the plant is staffed and still growing, so openings will come in waves rather than all at once.

The second split is about what the building is. The KJRH headline calls it [a 400,000-square-foot data center campus](https://www.kjrh.com/news/local-news/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-facility-sept-14-2026), while the release and [the News On 6 report](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs) describe a factory. News On 6 adds that Crusoe calls the site [a low-impact manufacturing operation](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs) where workers are [primarily cutting, shaping and assembling metal and other components](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs). That difference changes the job mix completely. A data center campus hires a few technicians once it is running. A factory hires production crews on shifts.

The third split is about scale. [The Unite.AI writeup](https://www.unite.ai/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-plant-to-build-ai-data-center-components/) reports that the company said the second plant [more than doubles its Tulsa workforce](https://www.unite.ai/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-plant-to-build-ai-data-center-components/), a company claim that does not appear in the GlobeNewswire release text. The same outlet notes its author [is an AI-generated specialist](https://www.unite.ai/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-plant-to-build-ai-data-center-components/), which is a good reason to lean on the primary document for anything you plan to act on. The company-wide numbers also differ by scope, with [News On 6](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs) counting manufacturing staff and the release counting all employees and site workers.

There is a location detail coverage skipped. [KJRH](https://www.kjrh.com/news/local-news/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-facility-sept-14-2026) puts the existing facility [near 41st and Sheridan](https://www.kjrh.com/news/local-news/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-facility-sept-14-2026), while the [Commerce announcement](https://www.okcommerce.gov/ai-company-crusoe-manufacturing-facility-in-tulsa/) listed the first plant [located at 5404 S. 122nd E. Ave.](https://www.okcommerce.gov/ai-company-crusoe-manufacturing-facility-in-tulsa/) when it was announced. The company may have moved or added space since, and none of the coverage explains it. If you apply, confirm which building a posting reports to, because the new plant sits [off Highway 169 and East 36th Street North](https://www.kjrh.com/news/local-news/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-facility-sept-14-2026) according to KJRH, and the address you report to shapes your daily commute on a shift schedule.

What the primary documents say that the coverage glossed over is the growth curve. The [Commerce announcement](https://www.okcommerce.gov/ai-company-crusoe-manufacturing-facility-in-tulsa/) set a target of [100 people by year's end](https://www.okcommerce.gov/ai-company-crusoe-manufacturing-facility-in-tulsa/), and [the Crusoe newsroom account](https://www.crusoe.ai/resources/newsroom/crusoe-tulsa-manufacturing-expansion) hoped for [a couple hundred by next year](https://www.crusoe.ai/resources/newsroom/crusoe-tulsa-manufacturing-expansion). [The GlobeNewswire release](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/14/3361418/0/en/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-manufacturing-facility-expanding-production-of-critical-ai-infrastructure-components.html) now reports [more than 300 local craft workers](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/14/3361418/0/en/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-manufacturing-facility-expanding-production-of-critical-ai-infrastructure-components.html). Missing from every version is pay. Neither the release nor the local reports list wages, shift premiums or benefits, and the speed claim that the company can [turn around in days what often takes the rest of the industry months](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/14/3361418/0/en/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-manufacturing-facility-expanding-production-of-critical-ai-infrastructure-components.html) comes from the company alone. [News On 6](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs) also flagged the wider context that [debate continues nationwide over the rapid growth of artificial intelligence](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs), which is the demand risk behind all of this hiring.

## What this means for your job search

Our take is that this is the most useful kind of AI hiring news for most workers, because the jobs are real, local and open to people without a four-year degree. The AI buildout is often described in billions of dollars and gigawatts. On the ground it looks like a production crew building steel cabinets full of copper. If you have ever welded, wired a panel or run a press brake, you are closer to an AI job than most software engineers think.

It is also not a guaranteed national wave, and it helps to be clear-eyed about that. The [Bureau of Labor Statistics](https://www.bls.gov/ooh/production/assemblers-and-fabricators.htm) projects employment of assemblers and fabricators to grow just [1% (Slower than average)](https://www.bls.gov/ooh/production/assemblers-and-fabricators.htm) over its current ten-year outlook, adding [16,700](https://www.bls.gov/ooh/production/assemblers-and-fabricators.htm) jobs. The opportunity sits in specific plants tied to data center demand, not in factory work as a whole. That means you should chase the employers building electrical infrastructure, and treat the rest of manufacturing with more caution.

Start by matching your experience to the list the company published. Crusoe's own release names [engineering and welding to powder coating, fabrication, and electrical assembly](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/14/3361418/0/en/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-manufacturing-facility-expanding-production-of-critical-ai-infrastructure-components.html) as the core skills. Put those exact words on your resume where they are true, and describe what you built, what materials you used and what you tested. Sheet metal, copper, torque specs, blueprints and quality checks all translate directly.

Know what the entry bar looks like. The [Bureau of Labor Statistics](https://www.bls.gov/ooh/production/assemblers-and-fabricators.htm) says assemblers and fabricators [typically need a high school diploma or equivalent to enter the occupation](https://www.bls.gov/ooh/production/assemblers-and-fabricators.htm), and that [workers typically receive several months of on-the-job training](https://www.bls.gov/ooh/production/assemblers-and-fabricators.htm). For electrical work the bar is higher, and the bureau notes that [workers in electrical, electronic, and aircraft and motor vehicle products manufacturing typically need postsecondary education](https://www.bls.gov/ooh/production/assemblers-and-fabricators.htm). A short technical certificate, a welding course or military electrical training can close that gap, and our guide on [how to become an electrician through an apprenticeship](https://www.metaintro.com/blog/how-to-launch-an-electrician-career) explains the longer route if you want to move up from assembly into licensed work.

> Assemblers and fabricators earned [2025 median pay of $45,450 per year, $21.85 per hour](https://www.bls.gov/ooh/production/assemblers-and-fabricators.htm), according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Use that number when you talk pay. The release gives no wages, so the national figure is your baseline. The bureau lists [electrical, electronic, and electromechanical assemblers](https://www.bls.gov/ooh/production/assemblers-and-fabricators.htm) at a [median wage $45,850](https://www.bls.gov/ooh/production/assemblers-and-fabricators.htm), a little above the broader group. A welder with certifications, or someone who can read electrical schematics, has room to ask for more, especially while an employer is racing to staff a new building. Ask about training budgets, shift differentials and overtime in the interview, not only the base rate, because none of those details appear in the announcement.

Apply through the source, and apply early. The [company release](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/14/3361418/0/en/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-manufacturing-facility-expanding-production-of-critical-ai-infrastructure-components.html) points applicants to its Tulsa careers page at crusoe.ai/careers/tulsa. A new building fills in phases, and the first people hired onto a line are often the ones who become leads and trainers when the next line opens. Mayor Nichols framed it as a path for [young people entering skilled trades and other technical careers](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs), and that is the right way to read it. Treat an assembly job here as a starting rung, then use the on-site testing and engineering teams to learn the next skill.

If you are not in Oklahoma, the lesson still travels. The AI boom needs data centers, and the [shortage of workers to build them](https://www.metaintro.com/blog/ai-boom-data-center-construction-jobs-worker-shortage-2026) extends to the factories that make their electrical parts. Search for switchgear, switchboard, busbar and electrical enclosure manufacturers near you, since those product names are more precise job search terms than AI. Those employers want the same welders, fabricators, painters and electrical assemblers that Crusoe is hiring in Tulsa.

Finally, keep one eye on demand. Hiring at a supplier like this rises and falls with data center construction, and the [News On 6 report](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs) noted [calls from some industry leaders for a slowdown](https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/crusoe-opens-new-tulsa-manufacturing-center-brings-hundreds-of-jobs) in AI growth. The protection is portable skills. ## People Also Asked

### Q: How many people has Crusoe hired in Tulsa?

A: The company says it has [hired more than 300 local craft workers](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/14/3361418/0/en/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-manufacturing-facility-expanding-production-of-critical-ai-infrastructure-components.html) across its two Tulsa sites, up from the 100 it expected when the first facility opened. Those are jobs already filled, so new openings will depend on how quickly the second building ramps up production.

### Q: What skills does Crusoe hire for at its Tulsa factories?

A: The release names [engineering and welding to powder coating, fabrication, and electrical assembly](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/14/3361418/0/en/crusoe-opens-second-tulsa-manufacturing-facility-expanding-production-of-critical-ai-infrastructure-components.html) as the core work. Workers build switchgear, switchboards, enclosures and copper busbar, and test each unit themselves, so quality and testing experience also counts.

### Q: Do you need a degree to get an assembly job building data center equipment?

A: Usually not. The [Bureau of Labor Statistics](https://www.bls.gov/ooh/production/assemblers-and-fabricators.htm) says assemblers and fabricators typically need a high school diploma or equivalent and several months of on-the-job training, though the bureau says workers in electrical equipment manufacturing typically need postsecondary education, and apprenticeship programs are also available. Crusoe has not published its own requirements.
