A coconut factory worth [R$72.2 million](https://movimentoeconomico.com.br/agronegocio/2026/09/21/projeto-de-nova-fabrica-da-dikoko-no-ceara-preve-r-722-milhoes-e-439-empregos/) is planned for Russas, in Ceará's Jaguaribe valley, and it is projected to employ 88 people directly and support 351 more jobs around it. The plan belongs to [DiKoko](https://www.dikoko.com.br/a-dikoko/), a coconut processor from Paraipaba, and its value, job estimates and timetable sit in a memorandum of understanding with the [state government](https://movimentoeconomico.com.br/agronegocio/2026/09/21/projeto-de-nova-fabrica-da-dikoko-no-ceara-preve-r-722-milhoes-e-439-empregos/) that appeared in the [official state gazette on Monday, 21 September](https://movimentoeconomico.com.br/agronegocio/2026/09/21/projeto-de-nova-fabrica-da-dikoko-no-ceara-preve-r-722-milhoes-e-439-empregos/). For coconut growers, farmhands and anyone who wants a first factory job in the valley, the honest answer is that this is real but early. ## What Exactly Did DiKoko and the State of Ceará Sign?

A memorandum of understanding, not a construction contract. The document sets out DiKoko Agroindustrial's plan for a coconut processing and packing plant in Russas with an estimated investment of [R$72.2 million](https://movimentoeconomico.com.br/agronegocio/2026/09/21/projeto-de-nova-fabrica-da-dikoko-no-ceara-preve-r-722-milhoes-e-439-empregos/), 88 direct jobs and 351 indirect jobs. It was signed with the state through the [Secretaria do Desenvolvimento Econômico](https://movimentoeconomico.com.br/agronegocio/2026/09/21/projeto-de-nova-fabrica-da-dikoko-no-ceara-preve-r-722-milhoes-e-439-empregos/), the economic development department.

The project was first made public on [3 July](https://movimentoeconomico.com.br/agronegocio/2026/09/21/projeto-de-nova-fabrica-da-dikoko-no-ceara-preve-r-722-milhoes-e-439-empregos/), when the company and the state signed the agreement. That first announcement carried no investment value and no job count. The numbers only surfaced when the memorandum was printed in the gazette in September, which is why the story reads as new even though the handshake happened in July.

The document also sets out what still has to happen. The plant depends on [specific contracts, the required licences and proof of technical, economic and environmental viability](https://movimentoeconomico.com.br/agronegocio/2026/09/21/projeto-de-nova-fabrica-da-dikoko-no-ceara-preve-r-722-milhoes-e-439-empregos/). In plain terms, the company has put its intentions on the record and the state has put its support on the record, but nobody has poured a foundation.

## How Many Jobs Are Real, and What Does 351 Indirect Mean?

The firm figure for factory workers is the direct one. The memorandum estimates [88 direct jobs and 351 indirect jobs](https://movimentoeconomico.com.br/agronegocio/2026/09/21/projeto-de-nova-fabrica-da-dikoko-no-ceara-preve-r-722-milhoes-e-439-empregos/), which is where the headline total of 439 comes from. Direct jobs are people on DiKoko's own payroll inside the plant. Indirect jobs are estimates of work created around it, among coconut growers who supply the fruit, drivers who move it, and firms that service the machines and the buildings.

That difference matters for a job seeker. You can apply for a direct job. An indirect job is a forecast spread across other employers, and there is no single door to knock on. If you grow coconuts or run a small transport or maintenance business in the valley, the indirect figure is the part that concerns you.

The timing is fixed in the document. ## Why Is the Plant Going to Russas?

Because the fruit is already growing there. The factory will sit in the [Perímetro Irrigado Tabuleiros de Russas](https://movimentoeconomico.com.br/agronegocio/2026/09/21/projeto-de-nova-fabrica-da-dikoko-no-ceara-preve-r-722-milhoes-e-439-empregos/), an irrigated farming district picked for the number of producers nearby and for how fast coconut growing is spreading in the Jaguaribe valley. Several of the state's main coconut hubs sit on the western coast, and this plant extends the chain inland.

The irrigated district is a federal project managed by [DNOCS](https://www.gov.br/mdr/pt-br/noticias/perimetro-irrigado-de-tabuleiro-de-russas-produzira-cacau-para-empresa-francesa-de-chocolate), the national agency for drought works. A 2014 federal notice explained why another agribusiness chose it, citing [water of good quality in terms of salinity](https://www.gov.br/mdr/pt-br/noticias/perimetro-irrigado-de-tabuleiro-de-russas-produzira-cacau-para-empresa-francesa-de-chocolate), which is rare in the region, and listing watermelon, melon and banana among its main crops at the time. For coconut palms, a perennial crop, clean irrigation water is exactly what a processor needs close by.

For workers, the location shapes the commute. A plant inside the irrigated district draws its labour from Russas and the farming towns around it, rather than from Fortaleza. People who already cut, harvest or pack fruit on the district's farms have the most relevant experience on their doorstep.

## What Will Workers Inside the Plant Actually Do?

Process the whole coconut. The plant is designed to use [aseptic filling](https://movimentoeconomico.com.br/agronegocio/2026/09/21/projeto-de-nova-fabrica-da-dikoko-no-ceara-preve-r-722-milhoes-e-439-empregos/), a sterile packing method that lets products be sealed without preservatives. The water and the white flesh will go into food products, while the husk and the fibre can be turned into [agricultural substrate and biochar](https://economicnewsbrasil.com.br/2026/09/21/fabrica-dikoko-ceara/), a carbon rich material used to improve soil.

The target customers are abroad. The production is aimed at [North America and Europe](https://movimentoeconomico.com.br/agronegocio/2026/09/21/projeto-de-nova-fabrica-da-dikoko-no-ceara-preve-r-722-milhoes-e-439-empregos/), which means export grade hygiene and quality checks on the line. That usually translates into strict clothing and hand washing rules, batch records and regular audits, the kind of routine a new starter learns in the first weeks.

The company's existing plants give a sense of scale. DiKoko currently processes about [200,000 green coconuts a day and 60 tonnes of dry coconut daily](https://movimentoeconomico.com.br/agronegocio/2026/09/21/projeto-de-nova-fabrica-da-dikoko-no-ceara-preve-r-722-milhoes-e-439-empregos/), sends 50 million coconuts a year into coconut water, and exports to five countries. ## What Does a DiKoko Production Job Ask For Today?

The company's own job ads answer this more clearly than any announcement. A current DiKoko posting for a [production line assistant in Paraipaba](https://vagas.solides.com.br/vaga/876345/auxiliar-de-linha-de-producao) describes the work as feeding machines with raw materials, cleaning and organising the section, separating, checking and packing product to standard, and helping run the machines while following safety procedures.

The entry bar is low and published:

- **Schooling.** Completed [primary school](https://vagas.solides.com.br/vaga/876345/auxiliar-de-linha-de-producao), with secondary school counted as a plus.
- **Experience.** None required for the role.
- **Hours.** Availability to work in shifts when needed.
- **Contract.** A formal CLT contract, the standard Brazilian employment contract with a signed work card, working on site.

The posting lists a [canteen on site and a digital food basket](https://vagas.solides.com.br/vaga/876345/auxiliar-de-linha-de-producao), plus ongoing training. It does not publish a wage, only a salary in line with the market, so ask for the figure at interview and compare it with other food plants nearby.

The management end looks different. A posting for an [industrial manager in Itapipoca](https://vagas.solides.com.br/vaga/874629/gerente-industrial) asks for a degree in engineering or administration, experience leading teams and managing costs, and knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen and PDCA. That role is offered as a PJ contract, which in Brazil means working as a registered company rather than an employee. A new plant in Russas will need supervisors, quality technicians and maintenance staff too, and the Itapipoca ad is a fair guide to what those people will be asked.

## What Happened the Last Time DiKoko Promised Jobs?

This is the best test of the Russas plan. In June 2024, DiKoko told the state it would put [R$196 million into a new unit in Itapipoca](https://www.ceara.gov.br/2024/06/27/empresa-dikoko-projeta-investimento-de-r-196-milhoes-e-mais-de-800-empregos-na-nova-unidade-em-itapipoca/), creating 211 direct jobs and 600 indirect jobs over three years. The same state notice set a plan to hire [136 people in the first year](https://www.ceara.gov.br/2024/06/27/empresa-dikoko-projeta-investimento-de-r-196-milhoes-e-mais-de-800-empregos-na-nova-unidade-em-itapipoca/).

The spending was phased. Itapipoca was due to receive [R$88.8 million in the first year and R$108.8 million by the third](https://www.ceara.gov.br/2024/06/27/empresa-dikoko-projeta-investimento-de-r-196-milhoes-e-mais-de-800-empregos-na-nova-unidade-em-itapipoca/). When the governor visited in August 2024, the first phase was farming, covering [a thousand hectares with 205,000 plants in 250 plots of four hectares](https://www.adece.ce.gov.br/2024/08/29/em-itapipoca-governador-elmano-visita-instalacoes-da-nova-unidade-da-empresa-dikoko/), watered by solar powered micro sprinklers. Factory construction was due to begin the following month, with operations planned for the [second half of 2025](https://www.adece.ce.gov.br/2024/08/29/em-itapipoca-governador-elmano-visita-instalacoes-da-nova-unidade-da-empresa-dikoko/).

The Itapipoca unit now appears in the company's own list of [factories in Paraipaba, Itapipoca and Petrolândia](https://www.dikoko.com.br/contato/), and DiKoko is advertising an [industrial manager to run operations in Itapipoca](https://vagas.solides.com.br/vaga/874629/gerente-industrial). A later plan put the unit's capacity at [500,000 coconuts processed a day](https://economicnewsbrasil.com.br/2026/09/21/fabrica-dikoko-ceara/). The Itapipoca unit is now listed as a company factory and is hiring a manager, although no source says how many of the [211 promised direct jobs](https://www.ceara.gov.br/2024/06/27/empresa-dikoko-projeta-investimento-de-r-196-milhoes-e-mais-de-800-empregos-na-nova-unidade-em-itapipoca/) exist today. That does not guarantee Russas.

Together the two projects add up to [R$268.2 million](https://economicnewsbrasil.com.br/2026/09/21/fabrica-dikoko-ceara/) in projected investment in the state. That is a sum of announced plans, not money already spent.

## How Big Is DiKoko Now, and Why Do Its Headcounts Differ?

It started on a single farm. The first coconut palm was planted in [1987 in the Calumbi I district of Paraipaba](https://www.dikoko.com.br/a-dikoko/), and at the end of 2002 the family decided to build a coconut factory, starting with frozen coconut pulp. A second plant opened in [Petrolândia, in Pernambuco, in 2015](https://www.ceara.gov.br/2024/06/27/empresa-dikoko-projeta-investimento-de-r-196-milhoes-e-mais-de-800-empregos-na-nova-unidade-em-itapipoca/), and the range has since grown to more than 30 products. It is also a major private label maker, producing goods for [other companies' brands](https://www.dikoko.com.br/a-dikoko/).

Its headcount depends on who is counting and when. In 2024 the state put DiKoko at [674 direct jobs and 1,050 indirect jobs](https://www.adece.ce.gov.br/2024/08/29/em-itapipoca-governador-elmano-visita-instalacoes-da-nova-unidade-da-empresa-dikoko/). Company data published alongside the Russas memorandum put it at [about 300 direct jobs in its factories](https://movimentoeconomico.com.br/agronegocio/2026/09/21/projeto-de-nova-fabrica-da-dikoko-no-ceara-preve-r-722-milhoes-e-439-empregos/). Neither page explains the gap, and one possibility is that the state figure includes farm staff while the company figure counts only factory workers, so treat any single headcount with care.

The state already backs the business. At Paraipaba, DiKoko receives incentives through the [Fundo de Desenvolvimento Industrial](https://www.adece.ce.gov.br/2024/08/29/em-itapipoca-governador-elmano-visita-instalacoes-da-nova-unidade-da-empresa-dikoko/), the industrial development fund run by the state development agency, [ADECE](https://www.adece.ce.gov.br/2024/08/29/em-itapipoca-governador-elmano-visita-instalacoes-da-nova-unidade-da-empresa-dikoko/).

The company also has momentum in the market. In 2026 it was one of [53 Brazilian consumer brands](https://movimentoeconomico.com.br/agronegocio/2026/09/21/projeto-de-nova-fabrica-da-dikoko-no-ceara-preve-r-722-milhoes-e-439-empregos/) picked by [Bain & Company, with NielsenIQ](https://movimentoeconomico.com.br/agronegocio/2026/09/21/projeto-de-nova-fabrica-da-dikoko-no-ceara-preve-r-722-milhoes-e-439-empregos/), for growing faster than their categories.

## How Does Ceará's Coconut Economy Support This Hiring?

Ceará is the country's biggest coconut state. It has led national production [since 2020, and in 2024 it harvested 588,500 tonnes](https://diariodonordeste.verdesmares.com.br/opiniao/colunistas/victor-ximenes/empresa-preve-investir-r-72-milhoes-em-nova-fabrica-no-ceara-1.3792393), up 13.4% on the year before.

The latest official figures cover last year's harvest. The national statistics office lists Ceará as the [largest producer in Brazil](https://www.ibge.gov.br/explica/producao-agropecuaria/coco-da-baia/br), with [43,796 hectares harvested](https://www.ibge.gov.br/explica/producao-agropecuaria/coco-da-baia/ce) and Paraipaba as the top producing municipality. The state's crop was worth [R$455.7 million](https://economicnewsbrasil.com.br/2026/09/21/fabrica-dikoko-ceara/), from roughly 587.3 million coconuts.

The farm base is broad. The last agricultural census, in 2017, counted [4,590 coconut farms in Ceará](https://www.ibge.gov.br/explica/producao-agropecuaria/coco-da-baia/ce). That is the pool the indirect jobs come from. When a processor opens nearby, small growers gain a closer buyer, and some of them hire more hands to harvest and haul.

## Where Should Jaguaribe Valley Job Seekers Look While the Plant Is Planned?

Start with the state's public job service. The [Instituto de Desenvolvimento do Trabalho](https://www.trabalho.ce.gov.br/2026/01/23/emprego-idt-sine-tem-taxa-de-aproveitamento-mais-alta-do-pais/) runs Ceará's Sine network, the free national employment service, and its job list is updated daily on its portal. In 2025 it had a placement rate of [70.57%, the highest in the country](https://www.trabalho.ce.gov.br/2026/01/23/emprego-idt-sine-tem-taxa-de-aproveitamento-mais-alta-do-pais/), and it brokered 63,368 hires over the last twelve months.

Registering early means your details are already on file when a new employer in the valley starts screening, and the service also handles unemployment insurance claims and the state's [Ceará Credi credit programme](https://www.trabalho.ce.gov.br/2026/01/23/emprego-idt-sine-tem-taxa-de-aproveitamento-mais-alta-do-pais/).

DiKoko also recruits directly. This is a credible plan with a long runway, and the gap between the two is where people get disappointed. Our view is that the best placed people are those already working with fruit in the irrigated district. They know harvest, grading and packing, they live within reach of the site, and the company's line jobs ask for [no prior experience](https://vagas.solides.com.br/vaga/876345/auxiliar-de-linha-de-producao), so practical farm work is a real advantage rather than a formality. Growers, meanwhile, should treat the plant as a future buyer and talk to their cooperatives about supply now.

Here is how we would act on it:

- **First time job seekers.** Finish primary school if you have not, register with the Sine service, and keep your work card and documents ready so you can start fast.
- **Farm and packing workers.** Note your experience with food hygiene and shift work on your CV, because an export plant will value both.
- **Technicians and supervisors.** Study the Itapipoca manager ad, since Lean and quality routines will be expected at Russas too.
- **Coconut growers.** Watch for supply agreements, because the indirect jobs start with the fruit you sell.

The one thing not to do is expect a big recruitment day this year. Works are due to [begin in the first half of 2027](https://movimentoeconomico.com.br/agronegocio/2026/09/21/projeto-de-nova-fabrica-da-dikoko-no-ceara-preve-r-722-milhoes-e-439-empregos/), and the hiring will follow the building, not the announcement.
