[Semiconductor equipment manufacturer Lam Research](https://www.logisticsmanager.com/lam-research-opens-warehouse-in-california/) has opened its largest US warehouse, a [470,000-square-foot logistics and supply chain hub in Livermore, California](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience), and the company expects the site to [support more than 200 jobs by 2027](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience). Lam will not run it alone, as the hub is [operated in partnership with DHL](https://www.electronicsforyou.biz/industry-buzz/lam-research-opens-470000-sq-ft-logistics-hub-to-bolster-us-chip-supply-chain/). For [Metaintro](https://www.metaintro.com) readers who work in warehousing, forklift operation or inventory control around Livermore and the wider Bay Area, the useful questions are who will employ those people, what the work inside a robot-assisted parts warehouse looks like and what a Lam logistics posting pays.

## What Did Lam Research Open in Livermore?

The building covers [more than 10 acres (4.4 hectares) under one roof](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience), which the company describes as roughly the size of eight football fields, or enough room to park 2,000 cars.

Lam marked the opening at a [September 28 ribbon-cutting ceremony](https://www.semiconductor-digest.com/lams-new-logistics-hub-built-for-velocity-resilience-and-ai-era-growth/) attended by State Senator Jerry McNerney, Livermore Mayor John Marchand, Innovation Tri-Valley chief executive Katie Marcel, employees and DHL partners. State Senator Jerry McNerney presented Lam with [a certificate of recognition](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience) from the state of California for its contribution to advanced manufacturing infrastructure, local job growth and supply chain resilience.

The warehouse will serve [Lam's high-volume manufacturing plant in Livermore](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience) as well as pilot product development at the labs at its nearby Fremont headquarters. An [adjacent metrology laboratory](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience) supports outbound deliveries and regional research work. The hub adds to Lam's [network of R&D, manufacturing, logistics, and office space across northern California](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience).

The hub is meant to improve Lam's ability to [move critical parts, absorb shifts in demand](https://www.semiconductor-digest.com/lams-new-logistics-hub-built-for-velocity-resilience-and-ai-era-growth/) and support customers with greater speed and predictability.

## How Many Jobs Is the Hub Expected to Support, and Who Will Employ Them?

Lam expects the warehouse to [support more than 200 jobs by 2027](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience), and its newsroom post labels statements that are not historical fact, including those on the hub's performance and benefits, as forward-looking.

The wording is support rather than create, with no split in [Lam's announcement](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience) between new hires and staff moving over from other Lam sites in California, and no timetable for filling the roles before that target date.

[DHL partners will help operate the site](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience), and Lam has its own [director of U.S. Warehouse Operations](https://www.semiconductor-digest.com/lams-new-logistics-hub-built-for-velocity-resilience-and-ai-era-growth/), but the jobs figure is not split between Lam and DHL.

## What Does DHL Do Inside a Semiconductor Warehouse?

[DHL](https://www.dhl.com/us-en/home/technology-logistics/semiconductor-logistics.html) sells warehousing, transport and spare parts services to semiconductor companies. Its service logistics network [spans 140 countries and territories](https://www.dhl.com/us-en/home/technology-logistics/semiconductor-logistics.html) and is built to keep spare parts available when production needs them.

Its semiconductor warehousing covers [testing goods for compliance or replacement, kitting down to the unit level, and preparing and packaging products](https://www.dhl.com/us-en/home/technology-logistics/semiconductor-logistics.html). DHL offers single-unit picks, has [cleanroom-trained staff](https://www.dhl.com/us-en/home/technology-logistics/semiconductor-logistics.html) and runs global parts warehouses that DHL says are meant for timely delivery of manufacturing items.

DHL also runs [vendor-managed inventory hubs](https://www.dhl.com/us-en/home/technology-logistics/semiconductor-logistics.html) for distribution and handles material scrapping under standard operating procedures. DHL can also [manage inventory using its systems or the customer's](https://www.dhl.com/us-en/home/technology-logistics/semiconductor-logistics.html). It [uses robotics in those warehouses](https://www.dhl.com/us-en/home/technology-logistics/semiconductor-logistics.html), which DHL says improves efficiency.

Those are DHL's general semiconductor services, not a job description for Livermore, and [Lam's announcement](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience) does not assign any of them to DHL partners at the hub.

## How Will Robots Change the Work Inside the Building?

At the centre of the site is a [40,000-square-foot automated storage and retrieval system with 15 robots](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience). The system holds about [150,000 storage bins](https://www.logisticsmanager.com/lam-research-opens-warehouse-in-california/) and can accommodate more than 500,000 unique part numbers.

The system cuts retrieval time for a part [from six minutes to less than 30 seconds](https://www.logisticsmanager.com/lam-research-opens-warehouse-in-california/), which Lam puts at [12 times faster than current systems](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience).

[Warehouse workers are supported by the system](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience) for better inventory flow, throughput and space use, in Lam's words.

The Fremont material handler listing asks for [foundational computer skills including warehouse management software such as SAP](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375).

> This advanced automation solution positions Logistics to support significant future growth while maximizing space utilization, according to [the Lam Research newsroom post](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience).

## What Does a Lam Logistics Job Actually Ask For?

A [material handler posting in Fremont](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375), open at the time of writing in the company's logistics department, describes work that runs from shipping and receiving to storing and distributing materials, parts and equipment. The role sits in Lam's [Global Products Group](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375), which designs and engineers the company's etch and deposition products.

The duties in that listing include:

- Receiving materials off incoming trucks and processing them through [audit activities](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375).
- Packaging products for shipment and checking goods against [purchase orders or invoices](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375).
- Decontaminating and cleaning materials as they [enter the cleanroom environment](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375).
- Completing material transactions in the warehouse system and [operating a sit-down forklift as needed](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375).

The listing asks for [one to two years of related experience](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375) with a technical certificate or diploma, English communication skills and basic computer skills, including warehouse management software. The physical side is spelled out too, with frequent bending, reaching and standing and moving [materials weighing up to 35 pounds](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375).

Forklift training or certification is [preferred rather than required](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375), and an associate degree in a related field is listed only as nice to have. The role also involves [posting weights and shipping charges](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375) on outgoing shipments, logging non-conformances in SAP and following [Lockout Tagout (LOTO) policies and procedures](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375) for a safe work area. Handlers also wear [appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375) and [facilitate material delivery for parts returning to the warehouse](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375). [Material handling experience](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375) is a further preferred qualification, and the required computer skills include the Microsoft Office Suite. This is [one Fremont listing](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375), not a Livermore hub posting, so its terms apply to that role only.

## What Does a Lam Logistics Job Pay in the Bay Area?

The same material handler listing gives a [San Francisco Bay Area range of $17.98 to $32.21](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375) for applicants who live or work on site in that area. Offers depend on factors including [level, education, training, skills and years of experience](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375), so where an individual offer lands within the range will vary.

For comparison, California's statewide minimum wage has been [$16.90 an hour since January 1, 2026](https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/faq_minimumwage.htm) for employers not covered by a higher industry or local rate. The state rate is adjusted each year for inflation, and the [highest raise allowed in any one year is 3.5 percent](https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/faq_minimumwage.htm). The state rate [cannot be lowered, even if there is a negative CPI](https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/faq_minimumwage.htm). The [posting is located in Fremont](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375), where the city's minimum wage rose to [$18.05 an hour on July 1, 2026](https://www.fremont.gov/Home/Components/News/News/1724) for hourly employees working inside city limits. That rate applies to [all hours worked](https://www.fremont.gov/Home/Components/News/News/1724) within the city, and employers must post the [official City of Fremont Wage Bulletin](https://www.fremont.gov/Home/Components/News/News/1724) at each work site in the top five languages spoken in the city. [The ordinance exempts employees of non-profit corporations](https://www.fremont.gov/Home/Components/News/News/1724). The listing's range covers the [San Francisco Bay Area](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375) and does not state a pay unit.

No pay figures for hub roles, at Lam or at DHL, appear in [Lam's announcement](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience).

## How Should You Apply for a Lam Logistics Role?

Start with the listing itself. Lam's material handler opening sits in the [logistics department under job ID 202721](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375).

Read the pay terms closely before an interview. Lam's range applies to people who [reside or work onsite in the California, San Francisco Bay Area](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375), and the listing adds that actual pay may vary because of factors such as unpaid time off, unpaid leave and [company mandated shutdown](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375).

Check the physical demands too. The listing describes the physical demands in detail, including [bend, stoop, reach, walk, sit, twist, squat, kneel, climb, stand](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375) for extended periods, so be ready to talk about warehouse shifts you have worked before.

Veterans are named in Lam's equal opportunity statement, which lists [military and veteran status](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375) among the protected categories. The listing prefers [material handling experience](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375) without saying where it must be gained, so forklift, shipping and receiving work from the military, retail stockrooms or manufacturing can be named in an application.

## What Do California's Pay Posting Rules Mean for These Applications?

California requires employers with [15 or more employees](https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/Pay-Trans-Instructions.pdf) to include a pay scale, or a salary or hourly wage range, in their job postings. The rule also covers employers who use [third parties to post their jobs](https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/Pay-Trans-Instructions.pdf), who must give those third parties the pay scale.

California employers may not [seek an applicant's salary history](https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/Pay-Trans-Instructions.pdf), rely on it when deciding an offer, or refuse an applicant's reasonable request for the pay scale. A pay scale means [the salary or hourly wage range that the employer reasonably expects to pay](https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/Pay-Trans-Instructions.pdf) for the position. Current employees can also [request the pay scale for their own position](https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/Pay-Trans-Instructions.pdf).

If a posting from an employer with 15 or more employees leaves the range out, a worker can file a [Pay Transparency Complaint within one year](https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/Pay-Trans-Instructions.pdf) of the date they learned of the violation. An applicant can ask for the pay scale, which employers must [provide on reasonable request](https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/Pay-Trans-Instructions.pdf).

## Why Does Lam Say It Moved Its California Logistics Under One Roof?

Karthik Rammohan, Lam's senior vice president of global operations and enterprise solutions, said the warehouse [demonstrates Lam's commitment to investing in the U.S.](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience). The hub [centralizes Lam's California logistics operations into one strategic location](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience), which in the company's words lets it move faster, plan better and respond to customers with speed and accuracy.

Troy Rainey, director of Lam's U.S. Warehouse Operations, said, ["This enables us to rapidly reallocate resources as demand and business priorities shift, while eliminating the costs and inefficiencies associated with moving people and materials between multiple facilities."](https://www.semiconductor-digest.com/lams-new-logistics-hub-built-for-velocity-resilience-and-ai-era-growth/)

The site was [designed to strengthen the semiconductor supply chain](https://www.semiconductor-digest.com/lams-new-logistics-hub-built-for-velocity-resilience-and-ai-era-growth/) and [support demand for AI-enabled technologies](https://www.semiconductor-digest.com/lams-new-logistics-hub-built-for-velocity-resilience-and-ai-era-growth/), Lam says, and the company points to [Silicon Valley's deep talent pool](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience) and established suppliers near the site.

> With all operations under a single roof, we can create a more agile and efficient operation, Troy Rainey, director of Lam's U.S. Warehouse Operations, says, according to [Lam's own announcement page](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience).

A separate SEMI Foundation projection says the US chip industry [could face a worker shortfall later this decade](https://www.metaintro.com/blog/us-chip-plants-157000-worker-shortfall).

## What This Means for Job Seekers, and What Should You Do Next?

For Bay Area warehouse workers, the jobs number needs careful reading. More than 200 jobs [supported by 2027](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience) is a company forecast, with no split between Lam and DHL and no count of roles that already exist at the [multiple regional sites being consolidated](https://www.electronicsforyou.biz/industry-buzz/lam-research-opens-470000-sq-ft-logistics-hub-to-bolster-us-chip-supply-chain/).

Lam's own material handler listing asks for [receiving audits, cleanroom decontamination and system transactions](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375).

Steps that follow from these sources:

- **Start with Lam's Fremont listing.** [Lam's Fremont material handler listing](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375) sets out the duties, pay range and physical demands for one in-house logistics role.
- **Lead with**[attention to detail](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375)**.** In your application, name the [checking of goods against purchase orders](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375), receiving audits, cleanroom or clean handling, and any warehouse software you have used.
- **Get forklift certified.** Lam's listing [prefers forklift training or certification](https://careers.lamresearch.com/careers/job/1099555448375), and [forklift driver pay](https://www.metaintro.com/blog/how-much-does-forklift-driver-make) gives a benchmark for that credential.
- **Ask for the range.** California law requires a [pay scale in postings from employers with 15 or more employees](https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/Pay-Trans-Instructions.pdf), so compare it against the state and local minimums and against other offers before you accept.
- **Ask who your employer is.** At a site that Lam runs [with help from DHL partners](https://newsroom.lamresearch.com/silicon-valley-semiconductor-warehouse-built-for-velocity-resilience), ask in writing whether your paycheck, benefits and promotion path come from Lam or from DHL.
