The cuts impacted various departments: three from the [Commission for Higher Education](https://ushecgov.org/), six from the [Department of Education](https://www.ed.gov/), 14 from the School for the Deaf, and a whopping 16 from the Indiana State Library. If numbers were characters, the Indiana State Library would currently be the tragic hero. But wait, there’s more. Additionally, another 12 positions were axed from places beyond our traditional classrooms. This includes eight from the [Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC)](https://iedc.in.gov/), three from the [Indiana Destination Development Corporation (IDDC)](https://www.in.gov/iddc/), and a singularly unfortunate role from the Governor’s Workforce Cabinet. Collectively, this represents a broader trend of belt-tightening across related governmental sectors. ## From Desk to Door: The Rundown on Restructure For those doing the math, that's a total of 49 positions eliminated since January starting with employee attrition early in the year. It’s also a stark reminder of our economically volatile times where even state-backed roles perched on the financial edge can tip over. There is no reprieve for just about anyone in this scenario, not educators, librarians, or economic developers. While the immediate reactions may be calls for concern, this isn’t Indiana's first budget-driven rodeo—and history shows it usually pivots back with some level of reallocation or repurposed funding.
