# Lego Expects About 1,300 New Jobs at Its Monterrey Plant With a $400 Million Expansion

Lego expects about 1,300 new jobs at its Monterrey plant through 2029. What it is building, which roles it posted in September and the local legal wage floor.

The [LEGO Group](https://www.lego.com/en-us/aboutus) will put [more than $400 million into its Monterrey, Mexico factory](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941) and expects about 1,300 new jobs to be created over the course of the expansion. The short answer for job seekers is that [the release spreads these jobs over the expansion](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941), with no single hiring date. Construction is expected to begin in [early 2027 and be completed by 2029](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941), so the new seats are expected to be added over the build, not this month. The plant's job board also carried other Monterrey roles, posted on [September 21](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Molding-Setter_0000038203) and [September 24, 2026](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Student-Worker-Production-FPK_0000038823), and its own [careers page](https://www.lego.com/en-us/careers/monterrey-mexico) shows what kind of work it does. For [Metaintro](https://www.metaintro.com) readers, the employer's own job board and the country's wage rules tell a machine operator, a technician or a student what to do next. Here is what is being built, who the plant hires and how to get ready.

## How Many Jobs Is Lego Adding in Monterrey, and When Do They Arrive?

The company's fact sheet lists [approximately 1,300 new positions added through 2029](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941), on top of approximately 7,300 employees today. That wording matters. It is a figure for the whole expansion period, not a single hiring wave.

The timeline is set out plainly in the same release. Construction is [expected to start in early 2027](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941) and to be completed by 2029. Mexico's economy minister, Marcelo Ebrard, presented the spending as running [between this year and 2029](https://mexiconewsdaily.com/politics/lego-invest-400m-nuevo-leon-september-24-mananera/) and described the positions as new, well-paid jobs.

The announcement came at President Claudia Sheinbaum's daily press conference on September 24, alongside [Lego's head of manufacturing in the Americas](https://mexiconewsdaily.com/politics/lego-invest-400m-nuevo-leon-september-24-mananera/), Nancy Sánchez Moya. The [Reuters wire copy](https://www.globalbankingandfinance.com/lego-invest-400-million-create-1-300-jobs-northern-mexico/) carried the same job figure for the state of Nuevo León, which borders the United States.

One gap is worth stating early. [The release](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941) does not break the new positions down by role, shift or pay, and it does not say how many will be filled in each year. The release gives [through 2029](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941) as the period for the new positions.

## What Is Lego Building, and Why Does It Need More People?

The money goes into [a new packing hall and a fully automated high bay warehouse](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941), which together add 62,000 square metres of built-up area and raise the site's production capacity by 35%. In plain terms, the plant is adding room to pack and store products.

The site is not only a packing operation. The Monterrey factory handles [all aspects of the manufacturing and packaging](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941) of LEGO products, including moulding LEGO elements, element processing and decoration, and packing LEGO boxes. Lego's careers page for the site lists teams in [engineering, maintenance, production, logistics, quality and safety](https://www.lego.com/en-us/careers/monterrey-mexico), not just packing.

The release also sets out the precision the site works to. Each brick is moulded to [the accuracy of a hair's width](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941), which the company puts at 0.005 millimetres.

The factory sits in [Ciénega de Flores](https://www.lego.com/en-us/aboutus/news/2022/august/the-lego-group-invests-us-500-million-to-expand-factory-in-monterrey-mexico), in the Monterrey area of Nuevo León. Lego's careers page describes it as the group's [biggest manufacturing site](https://www.lego.com/en-us/careers/monterrey-mexico), turning raw materials into play for children and families across the American market and beyond.

## What Jobs Does the Monterrey Plant Actually Hire For?

Lego's own [careers page for the site](https://www.lego.com/en-us/careers/monterrey-mexico) groups the work into three families. They are:

- [Engineering, Maintenance and Production](https://www.lego.com/en-us/careers/monterrey-mexico), the teams that turn raw materials and technology into finished products.
- [Planning, Procurement and Logistics](https://www.lego.com/en-us/careers/monterrey-mexico), which keeps materials flowing and puts every piece in the right place at the right time.
- [Quality and Safety and Administration](https://www.lego.com/en-us/careers/monterrey-mexico), which runs the working environment and keeps operations running smoothly.

The production work on that page is described step by step. Staff [melt and mold plastic into LEGO bricks](https://www.lego.com/en-us/careers/monterrey-mexico), decorate and assemble characters, animals and vehicles, then pack and box everything for stores around the world.

When we checked it in late September, the Spanish version of the page carried a hiring banner for the [Lego team in Ciénega de Flores](https://www.lego.com/es-es/careers/monterrey-mexico?locale=es-es). It pitches a role for someone who is good at solving problems, with responsibility for analysing and fixing issues and [running tests and measurements](https://www.lego.com/es-es/careers/monterrey-mexico?locale=es-es) to keep everything working properly. The banner itself does not give a job title.

The site page also lists the perks it offers staff. They include a cafeteria, an employee store, free parking, [shuttle bus services](https://www.lego.com/en-us/careers/monterrey-mexico), sports tournaments, volunteering and training and development.

## Which Monterrey Roles Were Posted in September?

Three postings on Lego's job board, posted between [September 21](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Molding-Setter_0000038203) and [September 24, 2026](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Student-Worker-Production-FPK_0000038823), show the range of the site's hiring. None of them are tied to the new expansion by name, but they show the kinds of entry points the site recruits for:

- A [full-time molding setter post in Monterrey](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Molding-Setter_0000038203), posted on September 21, 2026.
- A [part-time student worker post in production](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Student-Worker-Production-FPK_0000038823), posted on September 24, 2026.
- A [full-time construction safety manager post](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Construction-Safety-Manager_0000038685), also posted on September 24, 2026.

The [student worker post](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Student-Worker-Production-FPK_0000038823) is listed as part time, and it sits in production, one of the three work families on the careers page.

The [molding setter post](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Molding-Setter_0000038203) is titled for the moulding side of the factory, and the plant [moulds its own LEGO elements](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941). The posting itself lists no duties, pay or shift pattern.

Every one of [these postings](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Student-Worker-Production-FPK_0000038823) carries the same warning. Applications are [reviewed on an ongoing basis](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Molding-Setter_0000038203), and the company may amend or withdraw a job at any time, including before any advertised closing date. The postings themselves [encourage applicants to apply as soon as possible](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Molding-Setter_0000038203).

> The factory's expansion is expected to add about [1,300 new jobs through 2029](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941), on top of the 7,300 people who work there today.

## What Does the Construction Phase Mean for Safety and Trades Workers?

Lego posted a [construction safety manager role for the site](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Construction-Safety-Manager_0000038685) on September 24, 2026, though the posting does not name the new packing hall. The construction safety manager post sits in the company's [Global Workplace Projects team](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Construction-Safety-Manager_0000038685), a global department that manages construction end to end and focuses on production site expansion and major building changes across several locations.

The posting sets out the duties. The manager will [supervise health and safety practices across construction sites](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Construction-Safety-Manager_0000038685), plan safety training, run inspections and audits, investigate incidents and communicate with project managers, contractors and construction workers about hazards.

The listing asks for a bachelor's degree [or equivalent experience](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Construction-Safety-Manager_0000038685) in occupational health and safety, construction safety, engineering or a related field, proven experience on large high-risk projects such as factories and plants, knowledge of ISO 45001 and advanced spoken and written English. It also states that [no relocation assistance is offered](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Construction-Safety-Manager_0000038685).

For trades workers, the post gives one signal. It asks for [experience working closely with contractors, subcontractors](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Construction-Safety-Manager_0000038685), project teams and site personnel. The release does not say how many construction jobs the project will create, or whether they count toward the headline [jobs figure](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941).

## What Is the Legal Pay Floor in Ciénega de Flores?

The three postings we read do not list pay, and [the announcement](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941) gives no salary figure. What you can check is the legal floor. Mexico splits the country into two minimum wage zones, and the higher northern border zone in Nuevo León covers only [the municipality of Anáhuac](https://dof.gob.mx/nota_detalle.php?codigo=5775534&fecha=09%2F12%2F2025). Ciénega de Flores falls in the general zone, which covers [the rest of the country's municipalities](https://dof.gob.mx/nota_detalle.php?codigo=5775534&fecha=09%2F12%2F2025). Some trades on the official list of [61 professions, trades and special jobs](https://www.gob.mx/conasami/articulos/incremento-a-los-salarios-minimos-para-2026?idiom=es) carry a higher professional minimum in the general zone, and qualified electricians and bricklayers are among the trades on [that official table](https://dof.gob.mx/nota_detalle.php?codigo=5775534&fecha=09%2F12%2F2025).

For that general zone, the national minimum wage commission set the rate at [315.04 pesos a day](https://www.gob.mx/conasami/articulos/incremento-a-los-salarios-minimos-para-2026?idiom=es) from January 1, 2026, up from 278.80 pesos. [CONASAMI](https://www.gob.mx/conasami/articulos/incremento-a-los-salarios-minimos-para-2026?idiom=es), the commission, set the border zone rate at 440.87 pesos a day for the same year.

The official resolution also gives the monthly figure. Expressed monthly, the general zone minimum works out to [9,582.47 pesos](https://dof.gob.mx/nota_detalle.php?codigo=5775534&fecha=09%2F12%2F2025) from January 1, 2026, using the government's own method of multiplying the daily rate by 365 and dividing by 12.

Treat that as a floor, not a factory wage. The postings mention a [bonus scheme when goals are reached](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Molding-Setter_0000038203) and if eligible, plus life and disability insurance, enhanced paid family care leave and a colleague discount. Ask the recruiter for the base pay, any shift premium and the bonus terms separately, and compare the base figure with the legal floor.

## How Has the Plant Grown Since 2022, and Did Past Expansions Deliver Jobs?

Past rounds at the site give some context. When the site opened a major expansion in August 2022, Lego tied it to [a $500 million investment](https://www.lego.com/en-us/aboutus/news/2022/august/the-lego-group-invests-us-500-million-to-expand-factory-in-monterrey-mexico) and an extra 1,000 jobs, with total staff expected to pass 6,000 by the end of the following year. That release also recalled that the site began with [one building, five packing lines and 178 colleagues](https://www.lego.com/en-us/aboutus/news/2022/august/the-lego-group-invests-us-500-million-to-expand-factory-in-monterrey-mexico).

In November 2023 came [a second round](https://www.lego.com/en-us/aboutus/news/2023/november/lego-announces-expansion-of-factory-in-monterrey-mexico). The November 2023 release set out a [$205 million investment](https://www.lego.com/en-us/aboutus/news/2023/november/lego-announces-expansion-of-factory-in-monterrey-mexico) with up to 900 new positions through 2025, at a time when the factory employed more than 5,000 people. It also planned to grow the site from [51 production lines to 68](https://www.lego.com/en-us/aboutus/news/2023/november/lego-announces-expansion-of-factory-in-monterrey-mexico) by the time construction was complete.

The new release closes that loop. It describes the 2023 packaging and warehousing expansion as [completed earlier this year](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941), adding 59,000 square metres and an additional 900 colleagues to the site. In other words, the 2023 release expected [up to 900 new positions](https://www.lego.com/en-us/aboutus/news/2023/november/lego-announces-expansion-of-factory-in-monterrey-mexico), and the company now reports 900 additional colleagues from that expansion.

That history does not guarantee the next round of jobs. Carsten Rasmussen, Lego's chief operating officer, said in the new release that the company [has steadily expanded its Monterrey factory since its opening in 2008](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941).

> "This investment will create additional opportunities for technical training, professional development and long-term careers at the site," in the words of Nancy Sánchez in [Lego's own release](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941).

## Why Is Lego Expanding in Mexico Now?

Lego's latest results show strong demand. In its first half of 2026, the group grew revenue by [21% to a record DKK 41.9 billion](https://www.lego.com/en-us/aboutus/news/2026/august/strong-demand-and-brand-relevance-drive-lego-group-revenue-up-21-operating-profit-up-22-in-h1-2026) and outpaced a growing global toy market, with strong momentum in the Americas among other regions. It also raised spending on building a new factory and expanding existing ones to [DKK 4.6 billion in the half](https://www.lego.com/en-us/aboutus/news/2026/august/strong-demand-and-brand-relevance-drive-lego-group-revenue-up-21-operating-profit-up-22-in-h1-2026).

Monterrey is not Lego's only Americas project. The group is also investing [more than $1.5 billion in a factory and regional distribution center in Virginia](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941), and both facilities are on track to open in 2027. Placing production close to major markets is a strategy Lego described in 2023, when it tied the Monterrey site to [shortening the supply chain](https://www.lego.com/en-us/aboutus/news/2023/november/lego-announces-expansion-of-factory-in-monterrey-mexico) and responding to local demand.

The government pitched a wider benefit. Ebrard argued the project would help revive Mexico's toy industry and the linked petrochemical industry, pointing to the [polymers, solvents and pigments](https://mexiconewsdaily.com/politics/lego-invest-400m-nuevo-leon-september-24-mananera/) needed to make the bricks. Treat that as the ministry's case, not a promise of supplier jobs. [No supplier hiring figure was given](https://mexiconewsdaily.com/politics/lego-invest-400m-nuevo-leon-september-24-mananera/).

The company's side of the pitch is about people. Sánchez credited Nuevo León with [qualified talent, solid logistics infrastructure](https://mexiconewsdaily.com/politics/lego-invest-400m-nuevo-leon-september-24-mananera/) and a world-class manufacturing ecosystem, and framed the investment as growth and development opportunities for [many families in Nuevo León](https://www.cronista.com/mexico/finanzas-economia/lego-multiplica-sus-fichas-en-nuevo-leon-con-400-mdd-y-1300-nuevos-empleos/).

## How Do You Apply, and What Should You Expect?

Applications go through the company's own careers site. The release points job seekers to [LEGO.com/careers for a full list of jobs](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941). The [Monterrey page](https://www.lego.com/en-us/careers/monterrey-mexico) links to the site's current openings along with a guide to the recruitment process and tips for applying.

Set up an alert rather than checking by hand. The Monterrey page lets you [register for job alerts](https://www.lego.com/en-us/careers/monterrey-mexico) so you hear when a matching role appears.

Know the screening steps before you apply. The postings state that the company runs [drug screening as part of its drug free workplace policy](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Student-Worker-Production-FPK_0000038823), and roles with high engagement with children require child safeguarding background screening as a condition of the offer. The [same posting](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Student-Worker-Production-FPK_0000038823) also sets out the company's equal opportunity commitment and invites applicants from all backgrounds.

If you are coming from another factory, translate your experience into the plant's language. The site handles [moulding, element processing and decoration, and packing](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941). When you list [skills for your manufacturing resume](https://www.metaintro.com/blog/manufacturing-resume-skills), name the machines, lines and quality checks you have run.

## What This Means for Job Seekers, and What Should You Do Next?

For job seekers, this is a multi-year opportunity, not a single hiring day. The headline number comes from Lego's own release, which ties it to an expansion that runs [through 2029](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941), so there is no single day when 1,300 jobs open.

[Lego's release](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941) does not break the figure down by role. Its September 2026 postings included a [molding setter](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Molding-Setter_0000038203), and its Spanish careers page advertised for a problem solver who runs [tests and measurements](https://www.lego.com/es-es/careers/monterrey-mexico?locale=es-es).

Here is what we would do:

- **Get in the door now.** If you are a student, the [part-time production post](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Student-Worker-Production-FPK_0000038823) was posted on September 24, 2026.
- **Build a technical credential.** If you want a setter or maintenance role, a [machinist certification](https://www.metaintro.com/blog/machinist-certification-manufacturing-career) is one credential you could bring to that application.
- **Set a job alert.** Register on the [Monterrey careers page](https://www.lego.com/en-us/careers/monterrey-mexico) so openings reach you as construction moves.
- **Watch the contractors.** The construction safety post is built around [working with contractors and subcontractors](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Construction-Safety-Manager_0000038685), so trades workers can follow contractor hiring in Nuevo León once work begins.
- **Know the floor.** Compare any offer's base pay with the general zone minimum wage, or with the higher professional minimum if your trade is on the [official list of professions](https://dof.gob.mx/nota_detalle.php?codigo=5775534&fecha=09%2F12%2F2025), and ask about bonus and shift premiums separately.
- **Improve your English.** The construction safety post asks for [advanced oral and written English](https://lego.wd103.myworkdayjobs.com/LEGO_External/job/Monterrey/Construction-Safety-Manager_0000038685), so build it if you aim for a role like that one.

If you already work at the plant, ask your supervisor about training and internal moves, since Sánchez said the investment [will create additional opportunities for technical training](https://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=360941) and long-term careers at the site.
