Nojima, [the Japanese consumer electronics chain](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/), has lifted the top starting salary for graduates joining in 2027 to [438,000 yen a month, up 38,000 yen](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html), and at least one offer holder is set to receive [up to 477,000 yen including position allowances](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html), based on the September 2026 evaluation. Both figures sit on [a special entry track](https://finance.biggo.com/news/78ca89b1-e109-4502-9056-9a8d9ffc7cb9) for students who have worked at Nojima part-time for a year or more and shown exceptional results and proposal skills. Starting pay on the standard track rises to [¥352,000](https://finance.biggo.com/news/78ca89b1-e109-4502-9056-9a8d9ffc7cb9). For [Metaintro](https://www.metaintro.com) readers, the story is less about one eye-catching salary and more about a hiring route that starts with a part-time job at Nojima. Here is what Nojima's release, its recruit page and the news reports show about the pay, the track and the work.

## What Did Nojima Change for 2027 Graduates?

Nojima put out its release on the new graduate pay on [October 1, 2026](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html), and the same day it held an offer ceremony for its incoming class in [Yokohama](https://finance.biggo.com/news/78ca89b1-e109-4502-9056-9a8d9ffc7cb9).

For 2027 hires, the range before this revision was [344,000 to 400,000 yen, as announced on February 12, 2026 (2026年2月12日), and after it the range is 352,000 to 438,000 yen](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html).

A total of [921 people are scheduled to join Nojima and its group companies in spring 2027](https://finance.biggo.com/news/78ca89b1-e109-4502-9056-9a8d9ffc7cb9).

The company tied the raise to a staff philosophy it calls letting the nail that sticks out grow, and to giving people a place to try and to push themselves [regardless of tenure or job title](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html). At the ceremony, Hiroshi Nojima, [the company's president and representative executive officer](https://www.nojima.co.jp/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/a6b8a69fcfb771fc2958125859e3d95e.pdf), described a [contribution-based hierarchy that shines a light on those who contribute to customers](https://finance.biggo.com/news/78ca89b1-e109-4502-9056-9a8d9ffc7cb9), with a results-oriented approach unconstrained by seniority.

> I want you to enjoy growth by competing with your past self, not with others, President Hiroshi Nojima told the prospective hires (translated from Japanese), according to [the BigGo Finance report](https://finance.biggo.com/news/78ca89b1-e109-4502-9056-9a8d9ffc7cb9).

## How Do the Three Pay Figures Fit Together?

Three numbers are attached to this story, and [Nojima's pay release](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html) prints all three. The starting salary ceiling for 2027 graduates is [438,000 yen, a rise of 38,000 yen](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html). That ceiling is the [maximum starting salary under the program](https://finance.biggo.com/news/78ca89b1-e109-4502-9056-9a8d9ffc7cb9).

The larger figure is a [planned payment for individual offer holders](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html). At least one 2027 offer holder is set to receive [up to 477,000 yen including position allowances and similar items](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html), measured at the September 2026 evaluation. In dollar terms, the [477,000 yen figure is approximately $3,000](https://finance.biggo.com/news/78ca89b1-e109-4502-9056-9a8d9ffc7cb9) a month and the 438,000 yen ceiling about [$2,800](https://finance.biggo.com/news/78ca89b1-e109-4502-9056-9a8d9ffc7cb9).

Starting pay on the regular hiring track rises [from ¥344,000 to ¥352,000](https://finance.biggo.com/news/78ca89b1-e109-4502-9056-9a8d9ffc7cb9), which matches the bottom of the new [352,000 to 438,000 yen range](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html).

Two base pay increases fed into the range, one of [1,000 to 5,000 yen in April 2026 pay and a second of 4,000 to 10,000 yen in October 2026 pay](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html). [AMP Media's report](https://ampmedia.jp/2026/10/01/nojima-2027) gives the special track's new top as 43万8,000円, a rise of 3万8,000円 on the previous maximum.

## Who Qualifies for Nojima's Deru Kui Track?

The special route is called 出る杭入社, translated as the [Deru Kui Hiring program](https://finance.biggo.com/news/78ca89b1-e109-4502-9056-9a8d9ffc7cb9), literally the nail that sticks out gets hired. It is open to students who have worked at Nojima as partner employees, the company's term for part-time staff, for [one year or more and who show outstanding results and proposal skills](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html). Their graduate starting salary [reflects the evaluations they earned before joining](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html).

Starting pay on this track is set from [the most recent one year of evaluations](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html), so it is the student's latest year of work that counts.

Nojima introduced it for the [2026 graduate recruitment cycle](https://finance.biggo.com/news/78ca89b1-e109-4502-9056-9a8d9ffc7cb9), and the 2027 top figure before this revision was [400,000 yen, the pre-revision maximum](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html).

Two points are worth keeping straight. [Nojima's release](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html) does not say how many offer holders are on the special track, and it does not publish the pay steps between the bottom and the top of the [352,000 to 438,000 yen range](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html). On this track, pay [reflects each student's own evaluations](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html), so the ceiling is the top of the band, not a set rate. The release also does not break its range down by education level or region, while the [recruit page](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/) shows lower totals for junior college and vocational school graduates, and lower Niigata-area totals than Kanto-area ones at each education level.

## What Does a Standard Nojima Graduate Package Look Like?

Nojima's [graduate recruitment page](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/) carries the earlier standard figures, so it is a guide to how the pay is built rather than to the final number for the next intake. University graduates in the Kanto, Koshinetsu and Tokai region get a monthly total of [344,000 yen, made up of a 295,000 yen base and 49,000 yen in flat allowances](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/).

The allowances matter when you compare offers. The flat allowances are a [store allowance that covers expected overtime plus a business allowance](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/), and they apply to staff in stores, logistics and the call center. Transport costs are [paid in full on top](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/), with separate allowances for positions and qualifications.

Pay differs by education and region on the [current recruit page](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/):

- **Graduate school, Kanto area.** A total of [361,000 yen, from a 308,000 yen base and 53,000 yen in allowances](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/).
- **Vocational school or junior college, Kanto area.** A total of [325,000 yen, from a 280,000 yen base and 45,000 yen in allowances](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/).
- **University, Niigata area.** A total of [331,000 yen, from a 285,000 yen base and 46,000 yen in allowances](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/).

After joining, there is a raise from the [October of the first year](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/), two performance reviews a year with a chance of a raise at each, and bonuses in [June and December](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/) that vary with review results.

Hours and time off are spelled out too. Staff work [8-hour shifts within 9:30 to 21:30](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/), which vary by store, period and department, with 8 to 11 days off a month and [111 days of annual holidays](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/) plus paid leave, special leave and childcare leave.

## What Jobs Do Nojima Graduates Start In?

The general career track hires [planning and sales consultants serving customers in stores](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/), selling appliances and mobile phones. Later moves can include [store management, product planning, sales promotion, overseas business and staff training](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/).

Specialist tracks exist as well, on the [same recruitment page](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/):

- **In-house systems.** [App and e-commerce site development, POS system maintenance and in-house system development](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/), with required store support about once a month.
- **Finance and accounting.** Open after a few years in stores, and only to candidates who already hold [Nissho Bookkeeping Level 2 or higher](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/), and store support about once a month is still required after the move.
- **Call center and logistics.** Customer and store inquiries, or [inventory, delivery, installation, repair and recycling work](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/).
- **Overseas business candidates.** After [one to three years in a Nojima store](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/), a possible future posting to Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia or Cambodia.

The eligibility rules are broad. Nojima accepts expected graduates of [four-year universities, graduate schools, junior colleges and vocational schools, in Japan or abroad](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/), plus people within three years of graduating who have no work experience. All majors are welcome, and [no knowledge of appliances or phones is needed](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/) before joining.

Language is the firm condition. Applicants need Japanese at around [JLPT N1 level or above](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/), enough to talk with customers without difficulty.

Placement is based on your request and where you live. New staff are [assigned from their own request](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/) to a store within a commute of at most [one and a half hours each way](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/), across stores in Kanagawa, Tokyo, Chiba, Saitama, Yamanashi, Shizuoka, Nagano, Ibaraki and Niigata and the Yokohama head office.

## Why Has Nojima Made Two University Students Store Managers?

The pay change came a day after Nojima named its first two [student store managers on September 30](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000113.000163436.html), to take up the posts on October 1.

Both are [third-year university students aged 21](https://www.phileweb.com/news/d-av/202609/30/66044.html), running the Kawasaki Masugata store in Kanagawa and the Lasca Hiratsuka store. They have worked at Nojima part-time since [2024](https://www.phileweb.com/news/d-av/202609/30/66044.html), studying at university 3 days a week and working at Nojima 4 to 5 days. Both stores are [small-format shops in Kanagawa](https://www.daily.co.jp/society/economics/2026/09/30/0020876925.shtml), and the pair were picked for their customer service and their record in training other student part-timers.

Student managers handle [staff development and shift management, with no difference in responsibility or authority over budgets and hiring](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000113.000163436.html), and because Nojima applies equal pay for equal work, there is no difference in pay or treatment either.

Nojima appoints managers who are [the most appreciated by customers in their store](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000113.000163436.html) and who lead by example in developing the people they work with. The company already has [6 store managers on part-time contracts](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000113.000163436.html), and the students are the first from its university part-time staff.

Nojima's stores have a workforce of [約１万人 (about ten thousand people), and half of them are student part-timers](https://www.daily.co.jp/society/economics/2026/09/30/0020876925.shtml). The company also runs a [subsidy for students only, in place since November 2020](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000113.000163436.html), for those who would otherwise cut their hours to stay under the income limit for being claimed as a dependent.

Both students take on the role of [a retail store manager](https://www.metaintro.com/blog/store-manager-career) with the same responsibility and authority as other managers, as set out in [Nojima's store manager release](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000113.000163436.html).

> Nojima is a company that gives opportunities to and supports those who keep working hard, regardless of age, a Nojima vice president said (translated from Japanese), according to [the BigGo Finance report](https://finance.biggo.com/news/78ca89b1-e109-4502-9056-9a8d9ffc7cb9).

## Why Is Nojima Paying More to Keep Its Part-Timers?

Nojima raised pay for [two reasons](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html). First, as job hunting starts earlier, it does not want [strong students who balanced study with work at Nojima to leave for other companies](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html), and it wants to judge their past results fairly so they can join with confidence.

Second, it treats trusted, hard-working staff as company assets and wants to [reward people who contribute regardless of age or employment type](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html), to lift motivation further. The aim, in plain terms, is to [secure employees who can contribute immediately](https://finance.biggo.com/news/78ca89b1-e109-4502-9056-9a8d9ffc7cb9) by keeping part-timers who already know the work.

In [Mynavi's August career survey](https://www.mynavi.jp/news/2026/09/post_54609.html), 85.6% of university and graduate students due to graduate in March 2027 held at least one informal job offer at the end of August, down 2.0 points from a year earlier. The same [Mynavi release](https://www.mynavi.jp/news/2026/09/post_54609.html) puts the share still job hunting, counting students who hold an offer and keep looking plus those with none, at 23.4%.

Japan's government [sets a hiring calendar each year and asks business groups to follow it](https://www.cas.go.jp/jp/seisaku/shushoku_katsudou_yousei/index.html). On the [Cabinet Secretariat's hiring schedule page](https://www.cas.go.jp/jp/seisaku/shushoku_katsudou_yousei/index.html), the rule for the 2027年度 graduating class, one year after the students in Mynavi's survey, starts selection from ６月１日 and sets formal offers from １０月１日 of their final year.

## How Does Nojima's Pay Compare With Japan's Graduate Averages?

The public benchmark is [the labor ministry's wage census](https://www.mhlw.go.jp/toukei/itiran/roudou/chingin/kouzou/z2025/dl/14.pdf). The [2025 survey](https://www.mhlw.go.jp/toukei/itiran/roudou/chingin/kouzou/z2025/dl/14.pdf) put June 2025 scheduled pay for new university graduates, at private employers with 10 or more regular staff, at 262.3 thousand yen, up 5.6%, and for graduate school leavers at 299.0 thousand yen. Those figures describe [new graduates' pay in June 2025](https://www.mhlw.go.jp/toukei/itiran/roudou/chingin/kouzou/z2025/dl/14.pdf), so they are an older benchmark than Nojima's offers for the next intake.

Those averages and Nojima's figures are not built the same way. The ministry's wage measure is [scheduled pay for June, with overtime, late-night and holiday work pay taken out](https://www.mhlw.go.jp/toukei/itiran/roudou/chingin/kouzou/z2025/dl/14.pdf), while Nojima's standard total includes a [store allowance that covers expected overtime](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/).

For a wider frame, workers employed all year in Japan's private sector earned an average of [487万円 for the year in the 令和７年分 edition](https://www.nta.go.jp/publication/statistics/kokuzeicho/minkan/gaiyou/2025.htm) of the [National Tax Agency's annual pay survey](https://www.nta.go.jp/publication/statistics/kokuzeicho/minkan/gaiyou/2025.htm), up 1.9% on the year before. That is an annual average across all full-year earners, so it does not line up directly with a monthly graduate salary.

[BigGo Finance notes](https://finance.biggo.com/news/78ca89b1-e109-4502-9056-9a8d9ffc7cb9) that competition to raise starting salaries continues in Japan's retail industry as labor shortages become more severe.

## What This Means for Job Seekers, and What Should You Do Next?

At Nojima, a student part-time job is now a formal path into a higher graduate salary, with pay on the special track set from [the last year of evaluations](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html). That makes a part-time role there something close to a year-long interview, with the record you build feeding straight into your first salary.

Read the headline number carefully. The [477,000 yen figure includes position allowances](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html) and applies to a planned payment for an offer holder, while the top starting salary is 438,000 yen and the bottom of the release's range is [352,000 yen](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html). When you weigh any Japanese offer, separate the base from allowances, and check whether an allowance stands in for [expected overtime](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/).

Here is what we would do:

- **Treat the part-time job as the application.** On this track, a year or more of part-time work with [outstanding results and proposal skills](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000114.000163436.html) is what lifts starting pay.
- **Ask for the breakdown.** Request the base, each allowance and what each covers, as Nojima shows on its [recruitment page](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/).
- **Check the language bar early.** Nojima asks for Japanese at around [JLPT N1 level or above](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/), and international students should plan for it.
- **Look at the review cycle.** A raise from the [first October](https://recruit.nojima.co.jp/recruit/) and reviews twice a year can matter as much as the first payslip.
- **Weigh study and hours.** The two student managers [study at university 3 days a week and work at Nojima 4 to 5 days a week](https://www.phileweb.com/news/d-av/202609/30/66044.html), so plan how [full-time versus part-time student work](https://www.metaintro.com/blog/full-time-vs-part-time-student) fits your own week.
