Well, the region won't be partying in the woods anytime soon. [Remabec](https://www.remabec.com/), a lumber giant—and no stranger to cozying up with the chainsaw—has just revealed that it's cutting over 1,000 jobs. That's no accidental typo; it's over 1,000. And the grizzly culprit? Tariffs that are akin to blood-sucking leeches, draining resources before the timber even leaves the yard. More specifically, these tariffs have done a number on the company’s bottom line, prompting a sharp 10% reduction in workforce. Who knew wood was this much of a drama queen, right? It's a classic example of a regional issue making global waves. Quebec's forestry sector now finds itself navigating a maze that feels more like a tangled pile of wood shavings than a smooth wood grain. ## **Stumped by Tariffs** Tariffs on Canadian softwood lumber have gotten about as welcome in the industry as splinters in your socks. Rooted in an age-old, prickly trade war with the U.S., which really just sounds like a classic neighbors' spat, these tariffs have slapped Canadian companies with substantial export duties. For the numbers nerds out there: As of now, softwood lumber duties are hovering between 8% and 20%. The Remabec saga marks yet another chapter in this drawn-out drama, painting a not-so-pretty picture of the current trade climate. In the grand scheme of Canada's economy, this job cut may not seem like a monumental tremor. However, for Quebec's local communities reliant on these jobs, it's as if the whole tree has come crashing down. ### Share this article [https://x.com/intent/tweet?text=Quebec's%20Lumber%20Industry%20Faces%20Job%20Cuts%20Amid%20Tariff%20Struggles&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.metaintro.com%2Fblog%2Fquebec-lumber-job-cuts](https://x.com/intent/tweet?text=Quebec's%20Lumber%20Industry%20Faces%20Job%20Cuts%20Amid%20Tariff%20Struggles&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.metaintro.com%2Fblog%2Fquebec-lumber-job-cuts)[http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.metaintro.com%2Fblog%2Fquebec-lumber-job-cuts](http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.metaintro.com%2Fblog%2Fquebec-lumber-job-cuts)[https://www.linkedin.com/sharing/share-offsite/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.metaintro.com%2Fblog%2Fquebec-lumber-job-cuts&title=Quebec's%20Lumber%20Industry%20Faces%20Job%20Cuts%20Amid%20Tariff%20Struggles](https://www.linkedin.com/sharing/share-offsite/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.metaintro.com%2Fblog%2Fquebec-lumber-job-cuts&title=Quebec's%20Lumber%20Industry%20Faces%20Job%20Cuts%20Amid%20Tariff%20Struggles)[mailto:?subject=Quebec's%20Lumber%20Industry%20Faces%20Job%20Cuts%20Amid%20Tariff%20Struggles&body=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.metaintro.com%2Fblog%2Fquebec-lumber-job-cuts](mailto:?subject=Quebec's%20Lumber%20Industry%20Faces%20Job%20Cuts%20Amid%20Tariff%20Struggles&body=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.metaintro.com%2Fblog%2Fquebec-lumber-job-cuts) ![](https://cdn.metaintro.com/rs:fill:1200:800/q:30/plain/images/bridges/bridge-expand.1df895c6bd76d96f.png) For job seekers ## Ready to find a role that actually fits?
