Job seekers in Romania sent [1.3 million applications for part-time jobs](https://newmoney.ro/locuri-de-munca-part-time-salariul-mediu-3-000-lei/) on the recruitment platform eJobs since the start of the year, 13% more than in the same period of 2025. Those applications chased [about 27,000 part-time postings](https://startupcafe.ro/multi-romani-locuri-munca-part-time-1-3-milioane-aplicari-inceput-2026-platforma-recrutare-107324), an average of 49 applications for each one. These are counts from one private job board, not official statistics, so they describe competition on eJobs rather than the whole Romanian market. Below, those counts sit next to the government's wage rules and the Labour Code. Here is what the eJobs data shows, what part-time work pays, and what the law guarantees you.

## How Crowded Is Part-Time Hiring on eJobs This Year?

On eJobs, the average for [all jobs posted, including full-time and seasonal roles, was 69 applications](https://startupcafe.ro/multi-romani-locuri-munca-part-time-1-3-milioane-aplicari-inceput-2026-platforma-recrutare-107324) for each position, against 49 for part-time postings. Part-time applications, meanwhile, [rose 13% on the same period last year](https://newmoney.ro/locuri-de-munca-part-time-salariul-mediu-3-000-lei/).

The growth figure is a year-to-date comparison. The platform's count of [1.3 million applications since the start of the year is 13% above the same period last year](https://newmoney.ro/locuri-de-munca-part-time-salariul-mediu-3-000-lei/). That is a rise in applications, not in jobs, and the release does not give a year-on-year change for the number of part-time postings.

At the time of its [release on September 24, 2026](https://startupcafe.ro/multi-romani-locuri-munca-part-time-1-3-milioane-aplicari-inceput-2026-platforma-recrutare-107324), eJobs listed [more than 18,000 jobs, of which 3,300 were part-time](https://newsweek.ro/social/tot-mai-multi-romani-cauta-un-al-doilea-loc-de-munca-salariul-mediu-pentru-un-part-time-ajunge-la-3000-lei), with another 9,500 posted on iajob.ro. The iajob.ro site is built for [candidates who want to be hired quickly](https://startupcafe.ro/multi-romani-locuri-munca-part-time-1-3-milioane-aplicari-inceput-2026-platforma-recrutare-107324) without the traditional steps of a recruitment process, such as writing a CV.

> On eJobs, a part-time posting drew [49 applications on average this year, against 69 for all jobs](https://startupcafe.ro/multi-romani-locuri-munca-part-time-1-3-milioane-aplicari-inceput-2026-platforma-recrutare-107324), while applications for part-time work rose 13%.

## Why Are More Romanians Looking for a Second Paycheck?

Roxana Drăghici, head of sales at eJobs, said the rise does not necessarily mean people want to leave their main job, and that in many cases they are trying to [earn extra income without a major career change](https://startupcafe.ro/multi-romani-locuri-munca-part-time-1-3-milioane-aplicari-inceput-2026-platforma-recrutare-107324). In her view, for most of them a part-time job on top of a full-time one is a [temporary solution](https://startupcafe.ro/multi-romani-locuri-munca-part-time-1-3-milioane-aplicari-inceput-2026-platforma-recrutare-107324), a step to get through a tight financial period or to pay for a large purchase.

The official wage data gives useful context. The [National Institute of Statistics (INS)](https://insse.ro/cms/sites/default/files/com_presa/com_pdf/cs07r26.pdf) puts the average net monthly wage in July 2026 at 5,820 lei, up 5.5% on July 2025. The same release gives a real wage index of [97.5% in July 2026 compared with July 2025](https://insse.ro/cms/sites/default/files/com_presa/com_pdf/cs07r26.pdf), which means prices rose faster than pay and the average wage bought less than a year earlier.

Drăghici links the trend to the economy. She said the [economic context makes candidates more pragmatic about income](https://startupcafe.ro/multi-romani-locuri-munca-part-time-1-3-milioane-aplicari-inceput-2026-platforma-recrutare-107324), and that a second job is becoming an option for more and more people.

## Which Sectors Post Part-Time Roles, and Where Do Applicants Go?

Most part-time openings this year sat in [retail, insurance, services, tourism, finance and banking, the food industry and call centre or BPO work](https://startupcafe.ro/multi-romani-locuri-munca-part-time-1-3-milioane-aplicari-inceput-2026-platforma-recrutare-107324). Drăghici said these are fields that [hire entry-level candidates in large numbers](https://startupcafe.ro/multi-romani-locuri-munca-part-time-1-3-milioane-aplicari-inceput-2026-platforma-recrutare-107324) and can organise work in shifts or flexible hours.

The level matters as much as the sector. Most part-time jobs on eJobs are [entry-level, asking for no more than two years of experience](https://startupcafe.ro/multi-romani-locuri-munca-part-time-1-3-milioane-aplicari-inceput-2026-platforma-recrutare-107324), which, she said, gives more options to students, people with another job and people with daytime responsibilities.

Part-time applications went mainly to a similar set of fields, [retail, tourism, services, advertising and marketing and PR, the food industry, call centres, finance and insurance](https://newmoney.ro/locuri-de-munca-part-time-salariul-mediu-3-000-lei/). The [fewest part-time applications went to public administration](https://startupcafe.ro/multi-romani-locuri-munca-part-time-1-3-milioane-aplicari-inceput-2026-platforma-recrutare-107324) and state institutions, construction and medical services.

Part-time jobs attract people with no experience or at the start of a career first, followed by [mid-level candidates with two to five years of experience](https://newsweek.ro/social/tot-mai-multi-romani-cauta-un-al-doilea-loc-de-munca-salariul-mediu-pentru-un-part-time-ajunge-la-3000-lei), then seniors and managers. Drăghici names [career changers as another important group](https://startupcafe.ro/multi-romani-locuri-munca-part-time-1-3-milioane-aplicari-inceput-2026-platforma-recrutare-107324), since a part-time role lets them test a new field while keeping their main income.

## How Much Does Part-Time Work Pay Compared With the Minimum Wage?

The platform's salary tool gives one average. Data from Salario, the eJobs pay comparison tool, puts the [average national net salary for part-time positions at 3,000 lei a month](https://startupcafe.ro/multi-romani-locuri-munca-part-time-1-3-milioane-aplicari-inceput-2026-platforma-recrutare-107324). It is a single national figure, and the [eJobs release](https://startupcafe.ro/multi-romani-locuri-munca-part-time-1-3-milioane-aplicari-inceput-2026-platforma-recrutare-107324) does not break it down by hours worked, field or city.

The legal floor is set by the government. The Government raised the guaranteed gross minimum wage to 4,325 lei a month from July 2026, up from 4,050 lei, according to the [Ministry of Labour](https://mmuncii.gov.ro/salariul-de-baza-minim-brut-pe-tara-garantat-in-plata-se-majoreaza/). The hourly rate is [25.949 lei an hour for a full schedule of 166.667 hours a month](https://mmuncii.gov.ro/salariul-de-baza-minim-brut-pe-tara-garantat-in-plata-se-majoreaza/) on average, and the full-time net minimum works out to 2,699 lei with the 200 lei deduction.

The July rise is 6.8%, or 275 lei in gross pay and [125 lei in net pay](https://mmuncii.gov.ro/salariul-de-baza-minim-brut-pe-tara-garantat-in-plata-se-majoreaza/), according to the ministry. It said [831,382 employees were paid the guaranteed minimum](https://mmuncii.gov.ro/salariul-de-baza-minim-brut-pe-tara-garantat-in-plata-se-majoreaza/) when the decision was announced in March 2026, and that 1,759,027 employees would benefit from the increase.

The hourly figure is the one a part-timer should keep in mind. Under the Labour Code, pay rights for part-time staff are [granted in proportion to the time actually worked](https://codulmuncii.ro/category/articole/titlul-ii-contractul-individual-de-munca/capitolul-8-contractul-individual-de-munca-cu-timp-partial), compared with the rights set for a normal schedule. So check the hourly rate on any offer against the legal hourly minimum, not just the monthly total.

Pay also varies widely by industry. In July, the lowest average net earnings were in [other service activities at 2,986 lei](https://insse.ro/cms/sites/default/files/com_presa/com_pdf/cs07r26.pdf) and fishing and aquaculture at 3,023 lei, while IT programming and consultancy topped the table at 13,464 lei. Those are full economy monthly averages, not part-time or hourly rates, but they show which fields pay more overall.

## Are Remote Part-Time Jobs Easier to Find?

On eJobs, [14.6% of part-time positions are remote](https://startupcafe.ro/multi-romani-locuri-munca-part-time-1-3-milioane-aplicari-inceput-2026-platforma-recrutare-107324), while only 4.1% of all jobs posted this year still allow work from home. eJobs says it is the [only segment where employers keep such a high share](https://startupcafe.ro/multi-romani-locuri-munca-part-time-1-3-milioane-aplicari-inceput-2026-platforma-recrutare-107324) of remote roles.

Candidates appear to be [taking up that option](https://newsweek.ro/social/tot-mai-multi-romani-cauta-un-al-doilea-loc-de-munca-salariul-mediu-pentru-un-part-time-ajunge-la-3000-lei), according to Newsweek Romania. Out of all part-time applications, [almost 20% went to remote part-time jobs](https://newsweek.ro/social/tot-mai-multi-romani-cauta-un-al-doilea-loc-de-munca-salariul-mediu-pentru-un-part-time-ajunge-la-3000-lei). Remote roles make up [14.6% of part-time positions but draw almost 20% of part-time applications](https://newsweek.ro/social/tot-mai-multi-romani-cauta-un-al-doilea-loc-de-munca-salariul-mediu-pentru-un-part-time-ajunge-la-3000-lei), so remote listings draw more applications on average than part-time listings overall. Anyone applying for one should prepare for [remote job interview questions](https://www.metaintro.com/blog/remote-job-interview-questions) as well as the usual ones.

## What Must a Part-Time Contract in Romania Say?

The contract sets out a part-timer's protections. Romania's Labour Code says an employer may hire part-time staff on permanent or fixed-term contracts, and that a [part-time individual employment contract is concluded only in writing](https://codulmuncii.ro/category/articole/titlul-ii-contractul-individual-de-munca/capitolul-8-contractul-individual-de-munca-cu-timp-partial).

Beyond the standard terms, the contract must include three things. The [Labour Inspection authority's FAQ](https://www.inspectiamuncii.ro/documents/66402/201782/%C3%8Entreb%C4%83ri+frecvente+CODUL+MUNCIIdoc.pdf/4debe5e0-3f7f-47b8-a628-b31939ac6850) lists them as:

- The length of the working time and how the work schedule is distributed
- The conditions under which the schedule can be changed
- A ban on overtime, except for force majeure or urgent work to prevent accidents or deal with their consequences

Leaving these out has a set consequence. If a part-time contract does not specify those elements, the [contract is considered to be concluded for full-time work](https://www.inspectiamuncii.ro/documents/66402/201782/%C3%8Entreb%C4%83ri+frecvente+CODUL+MUNCIIdoc.pdf/4debe5e0-3f7f-47b8-a628-b31939ac6850). Read your contract for the hours and the schedule before you sign, and keep a copy.

Equal treatment is also written in. A part-time employee enjoys the [rights of full-time employees](https://codulmuncii.ro/category/articole/titlul-ii-contractul-individual-de-munca/capitolul-8-contractul-individual-de-munca-cu-timp-partial) under the law and applicable collective agreements, with pay rights scaled to the hours worked.

Two more points come from the commentary published with those contract rules. Leaving out the required terms [does not make a part-time contract void](https://codulmuncii.ro/category/articole/titlul-ii-contractul-individual-de-munca/capitolul-8-contractul-individual-de-munca-cu-timp-partial), and the full-time rule is an [absolute legal presumption](https://codulmuncii.ro/category/articole/titlul-ii-contractul-individual-de-munca/capitolul-8-contractul-individual-de-munca-cu-timp-partial), so no proof to the contrary can overturn it. The same commentary says a [production peak cannot be treated as force majeure](https://codulmuncii.ro/category/articole/titlul-ii-contractul-individual-de-munca/capitolul-8-contractul-individual-de-munca-cu-timp-partial) to justify overtime for a part-timer.

## Can You Legally Hold a Part-Time Job on Top of a Full-Time One?

Yes, with limits. Article 35 of the Labour Code gives every employee the right to [work for different employers, or for the same employer, under separate contracts](https://codulmuncii.ro/art-35-cumulul-de-functii) without overlapping schedules, and to be paid for each one. No employer may treat an employee unfavourably for using that right.

There are exceptions. The right does not apply where a law sets [incompatibilities for holding certain posts together](https://codulmuncii.ro/art-35-cumulul-de-functii), so anyone in a role governed by such a rule should check it before taking a second contract. Commentary published with the article adds that a clause banning an employee from any outside activity is void because it breaches this right, and that holding several posts must respect a [minimum rest of 12 consecutive hours](https://codulmuncii.ro/art-35-cumulul-de-functii). It also sets a ceiling, since the [maximum working time across several posts is 48 hours a week in total](https://codulmuncii.ro/art-35-cumulul-de-functii), with the exceptions set out in the Labour Code.

Tax is the other detail. The same annotated text, citing the Fiscal Code, says [personal deductions are granted only for the salary from the main job](https://codulmuncii.ro/art-35-cumulul-de-functii), so the second salary does not get that relief. Check the net figure on the second offer, not only the gross.

## How Many Part-Time Workers Want More Hours, by the Official Count?

The official survey shows a different side of part-time work. In 2025, [75.4 thousand employed people working part-time wanted and were available to work more hours](https://insse.ro/cms/sites/default/files/com_presa/com_pdf/subocup_2025r.pdf), which INS classes as underemployed. They made up [40.1% of all people working part-time and 0.9% of the active population](https://insse.ro/cms/sites/default/files/com_presa/com_pdf/subocup_2025r.pdf).

The underemployed are mostly rural. The INS release counts [59.4 thousand underemployed people in rural areas against 16.0 thousand in urban areas](https://insse.ro/cms/sites/default/files/com_presa/com_pdf/subocup_2025r.pdf), and 59.0 thousand men against 16.4 thousand women. The count [fell by 12.1 thousand from the previous year](https://insse.ro/cms/sites/default/files/com_presa/com_pdf/subocup_2025r.pdf).

The share differs sharply by sex. Among men working part-time, [46.2% were underemployed, against 27.2% of women](https://insse.ro/cms/sites/default/files/com_presa/com_pdf/subocup_2025r.pdf) working part-time.

There is also a pool outside the workforce. INS counts [204.5 thousand inactive people who wanted to work](https://insse.ro/cms/sites/default/files/com_presa/com_pdf/subocup_2025r.pdf) but were either not looking or not available to start, down 8.6% on the year before. Almost all of them were [available to start work but were not looking for a job](https://insse.ro/cms/sites/default/files/com_presa/com_pdf/subocup_2025r.pdf), 199.2 thousand people or 2.4% of the active population.

> Of everyone working part-time in Romania in 2025, [40.1% wanted and were available to work more hours](https://insse.ro/cms/sites/default/files/com_presa/com_pdf/subocup_2025r.pdf).

If you are in that group, the law gives you a route. An employer must, as far as possible, consider [requests to move from part-time to full-time or to increase working hours](https://codulmuncii.ro/category/articole/titlul-ii-contractul-individual-de-munca/capitolul-8-contractul-individual-de-munca-cu-timp-partial) when the opportunity arises, and must announce openings in good time through a notice posted at its headquarters. A [copy of that notice must go straight to the union](https://codulmuncii.ro/category/articole/titlul-ii-contractul-individual-de-munca/capitolul-8-contractul-individual-de-munca-cu-timp-partial) or the employee representatives.

## How Do You Stand Out When Dozens Apply for Each Posting?

Start with what candidates look for first, which eJobs says is the salary. On part-time roles, salary is the [first piece of information candidates search for](https://newsweek.ro/social/tot-mai-multi-romani-cauta-un-al-doilea-loc-de-munca-salariul-mediu-pentru-un-part-time-ajunge-la-3000-lei), followed by the number of hours, the time slot, whether the schedule is fixed or flexible and whether weekend work is possible. The clearer an advert is on those points, the better an employer's chances of getting [relevant applications](https://startupcafe.ro/multi-romani-locuri-munca-part-time-1-3-milioane-aplicari-inceput-2026-platforma-recrutare-107324), Drăghici said.

Use that to your advantage. Apply first to listings that state pay and hours, since those adverts tell you up front whether the job fits your week. In your application, say exactly which hours and days you can work, since hours and time slot are what [candidates look for right after pay](https://newsweek.ro/social/tot-mai-multi-romani-cauta-un-al-doilea-loc-de-munca-salariul-mediu-pentru-un-part-time-ajunge-la-3000-lei), according to eJobs.

Match your experience to the sector. Drăghici said the fields with the most part-time roles [hire entry-level candidates in large numbers and can organise work in shifts](https://startupcafe.ro/multi-romani-locuri-munca-part-time-1-3-milioane-aplicari-inceput-2026-platforma-recrutare-107324), so name any [customer-facing work](https://www.metaintro.com/blog/customer-service-associate) you have done, even a student job or a seasonal role. If you already work full-time, say so plainly and show that the second schedule will not clash with the first.

## What This Means for Job Seekers, and What Should You Do Next?

The data points one way for job seekers. With [49 applications on average for each part-time posting against 69 across all jobs](https://newmoney.ro/locuri-de-munca-part-time-salariul-mediu-3-000-lei/) on eJobs, the crowd is smaller here than in hiring overall. The pay is about half the national average, with the platform's Salario figure at [3,000 lei net a month](https://startupcafe.ro/multi-romani-locuri-munca-part-time-1-3-milioane-aplicari-inceput-2026-platforma-recrutare-107324) against the [INS average net wage of 5,820 lei](https://insse.ro/cms/sites/default/files/com_presa/com_pdf/cs07r26.pdf) in July 2026. So a part-time role adds income on top of a main job rather than replacing a full salary.

Our take is that the contract matters more than the advert. A part-time contract that leaves out the hours and schedule [counts as full-time](https://www.inspectiamuncii.ro/documents/66402/201782/%C3%8Entreb%C4%83ri+frecvente+CODUL+MUNCIIdoc.pdf/4debe5e0-3f7f-47b8-a628-b31939ac6850), and a second job is legal only when the [schedules do not overlap](https://codulmuncii.ro/art-35-cumulul-de-functii).

Here is what we would do:

- **Compare the hourly rate.** Check any offer against the [legal hourly minimum](https://mmuncii.gov.ro/salariul-de-baza-minim-brut-pe-tara-garantat-in-plata-se-majoreaza/), since part-time pay is [granted in proportion to the hours worked](https://codulmuncii.ro/category/articole/titlul-ii-contractul-individual-de-munca/capitolul-8-contractul-individual-de-munca-cu-timp-partial).
- **Read the schedule clause.** A part-time contract must state the hours and how they can change, or it [counts as full-time](https://www.inspectiamuncii.ro/documents/66402/201782/%C3%8Entreb%C4%83ri+frecvente+CODUL+MUNCIIdoc.pdf/4debe5e0-3f7f-47b8-a628-b31939ac6850).
- **Keep the jobs apart.** Two contracts are legal only when the [schedules do not overlap](https://codulmuncii.ro/art-35-cumulul-de-functii), and some posts are barred from being combined.
- **Check the net pay.** The annotated Labour Code notes that [personal deductions apply only to the main job's salary](https://codulmuncii.ro/art-35-cumulul-de-functii), so check what the second one pays after tax.
- **Target clear adverts.** Apply first where pay and hours are stated, and say exactly when you can work.
- **Ask for more hours.** If you want full-time work, raise it with your employer, since the law says [requests must be considered where possible](https://codulmuncii.ro/category/articole/titlul-ii-contractul-individual-de-munca/capitolul-8-contractul-individual-de-munca-cu-timp-partial).
