# Rotana Plans Around 5,000 Hotel Jobs Across 40 New Properties Over Six Years

Rotana expects around 5,000 hotel jobs over five to six years from 40 planned hotels, and its CEO says pipelines shrink. Which markets and how to apply.

A hotel group that says it cut no jobs through the recent regional downturn is now planning to grow its workforce over the rest of the decade. [Reporting at Khaleej Times](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/uae-hotel-group-rotana-to-hire-5000-staff-as-hotel-group-plans-40-new-properties) says Rotana is [set to create around 5,000 new jobs over the next five to six years](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/uae-hotel-group-rotana-to-hire-5000-staff-as-hotel-group-plans-40-new-properties) as it moves ahead with a pipeline of 40 properties across Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan, Somalia, Georgia and other markets. Chief executive Philip M. Barnes said the company [currently operates around 80 hotels and employs roughly 10,000 people](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/uae-hotel-group-rotana-to-hire-5000-staff-as-hotel-group-plans-40-new-properties). At [Metaintro](https://www.metaintro.com) we read announcements like this from the job seeker's side. The short answer is that this is a multi-year plan, not a set of roles open today. Barnes himself [cautioned that pipeline numbers typically shrink over time](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/uae-hotel-group-rotana-to-hire-5000-staff-as-hotel-group-plans-40-new-properties), and the hiring will be spread across several countries as each hotel is built, so the way you prepare depends on which hotel you want and who will actually employ you there.

## What happened

Barnes laid out the plan in [an interview with the Khaleej Times business desk](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/uae-hotel-group-rotana-to-hire-5000-staff-as-hotel-group-plans-40-new-properties) that framed hiring as the payoff of a hard stretch. The paper reports that [three new properties have already opened this year](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/uae-hotel-group-rotana-to-hire-5000-staff-as-hotel-group-plans-40-new-properties), and that a new property in Ras Al Khaimah is [due to open within the next four to six weeks](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/uae-hotel-group-rotana-to-hire-5000-staff-as-hotel-group-plans-40-new-properties). Those are the near-term openings. The bigger number sits further out.

The pipeline leans heavily on Saudi Arabia. Barnes described the Saudi market as a long-standing strategic focus. Beyond the Gulf, [the same interview](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/uae-hotel-group-rotana-to-hire-5000-staff-as-hotel-group-plans-40-new-properties) lists [upcoming properties in Islamabad, Mogadishu and multiple sites in Egypt](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/uae-hotel-group-rotana-to-hire-5000-staff-as-hotel-group-plans-40-new-properties), where he said government-backed investment was reshaping the property and hospitality landscape in Cairo.

The hiring push is also being framed as a story about loyalty. Barnes told the paper, "We had no layoffs. The Pakistan hotel is the best documented of the new markets. The hotel [will add a total of 522 keys to Rotana's global portfolio once completed](https://www.breakingtravelnews.com/news/article/rotanas-first-hotel-in-pakistan/), made up of [378 hotel rooms and 144 branded residential apartments](https://www.breakingtravelnews.com/news/article/rotanas-first-hotel-in-pakistan/). Plans in [that announcement](https://www.breakingtravelnews.com/news/article/rotanas-first-hotel-in-pakistan/) include [a state-of-the-art business centre with six meeting rooms, a banquet hall, and a multipurpose space](https://www.breakingtravelnews.com/news/article/rotanas-first-hotel-in-pakistan/), along with specialty restaurants, a café, a spa and an indoor swimming pool.

Somalia is a first for the country as a whole, not only for Rotana. [A release carried by Hotel and Catering News](https://hotelandcatering.com/news/rotana-unveils-plans-for-mogadishu-rotana-the-first-ever-five-star-hotel-in-somalia) describes Mogadishu Rotana as [the first luxury hotel development in Somalia, in partnership with Riverside Holding](https://hotelandcatering.com/news/rotana-unveils-plans-for-mogadishu-rotana-the-first-ever-five-star-hotel-in-somalia). The release, which carries no publication date, says the hotel will feature [321 keys, comprising 261 guest rooms and 60 hotel apartments](https://hotelandcatering.com/news/rotana-unveils-plans-for-mogadishu-rotana-the-first-ever-five-star-hotel-in-somalia), close to Aden Adde International Airport. One detail matters for anyone hoping to work there. The release says the property [will be managed by Aleph Hospitality, a Dubai-based company](https://hotelandcatering.com/news/rotana-unveils-plans-for-mogadishu-rotana-the-first-ever-five-star-hotel-in-somalia), rather than run directly by Rotana.

Georgia and Egypt have been in the plan for some time. In a development update from the Arabian Travel Market, [reported by Hotel News Resource](https://www.hotelnewsresource.com/article131373.html), Rotana said its Georgian debut, Pontus Rotana Resort & Spa in Gonio, [will add 600 keys to Rotana's diverse global portfolio when it opens in 2026](https://www.hotelnewsresource.com/article131373.html). [That update](https://www.hotelnewsresource.com/article131373.html) also listed Luxor Rotana, Palma Bay Rotana Resort and [two new hotel projects in Cairo](https://www.hotelnewsresource.com/article131373.html), including White Palace Rotana, [a five-star hotel with 353 keys](https://www.hotelnewsresource.com/article131373.html). For Saudi Arabia, the group said at the time it would [launch nine new properties in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) over the next four years, doubling its key count in the country to over 4,400](https://www.hotelnewsresource.com/article131373.html).

Later that year the targets grew. [Reporting at Hospitality Net in October 2024](https://www.hospitalitynet.org/news/4124021) said Rotana was developing [43 new properties in 26 cities in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Türkiye by 2026](https://www.hospitalitynet.org/news/4124021), which would add [9,049 rooms to Rotana's inventory](https://www.hospitalitynet.org/news/4124021). The same report set a goal [to triple the number of rooms it currently runs in the Kingdom to 6,000 over the next three years](https://www.hospitalitynet.org/news/4124021), and said the Islamabad hotel was [slated for opening in 2027](https://www.hospitalitynet.org/news/4124021).

None of this comes from a newcomer. [The Rotana company profile at Hospitality Net](https://www.hospitalitynet.org/organization/17001171/rotana) says the group [was founded in 1992](https://www.hospitalitynet.org/organization/17001171/rotana) and [opened its first property, the Beach Rotana Abu Dhabi in 1993](https://www.hospitalitynet.org/organization/17001171/rotana), growing [from 2 properties in 1993 to a total of 70 by 2012](https://www.hospitalitynet.org/organization/17001171/rotana). In [an earlier Khaleej Times jobs interview](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/jobs/rotana-vacancies-career-opportunities) published in April 2025, Barnes said Rotana had [just shy of 10,000 employees companywide](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/jobs/rotana-vacancies-career-opportunities) and would [probably have over 11,000 employees](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/jobs/rotana-vacancies-career-opportunities) within 18 months or two years.

## Where the coverage agrees, and where it splits

Every account agrees on direction. Rotana is a Gulf-born group expanding hardest in Saudi Arabia while pushing into Africa and South Asia. [This week's interview](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/uae-hotel-group-rotana-to-hire-5000-staff-as-hotel-group-plans-40-new-properties), [the Arabian Travel Market update](https://www.hotelnewsresource.com/article131373.html) and [the October 2024 expansion report](https://www.hospitalitynet.org/news/4124021) all place Saudi Arabia and Egypt at the center of the plan, and [the Mogadishu release](https://hotelandcatering.com/news/rotana-unveils-plans-for-mogadishu-rotana-the-first-ever-five-star-hotel-in-somalia) confirms Somalia is more than a talking point. They also agree that the company sells itself on local knowledge. In the earlier interview, Barnes said owners in the region know Rotana has [an inherent understanding of the DNA of the culture](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/jobs/rotana-vacancies-career-opportunities) it works in.

The numbers are where the story splits. When it announced Islamabad, Rotana described [the opening of 30 new properties by 2026](https://www.breakingtravelnews.com/news/article/rotanas-first-hotel-in-pakistan/). [The October 2024 report on Hospitality Net put the target at 43 new properties by 2026](https://www.hospitalitynet.org/news/4124021). In April 2025, Barnes [told the paper](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/jobs/rotana-vacancies-career-opportunities) the group had [about another 20-plus properties in development](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/jobs/rotana-vacancies-career-opportunities) and a goal [to be at about 120 hotels within three to five years](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/jobs/rotana-vacancies-career-opportunities). This week the figure is [a pipeline of 40 properties](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/uae-hotel-group-rotana-to-hire-5000-staff-as-hotel-group-plans-40-new-properties), stretched over a longer horizon. Each number may be accurate on its own terms, since pipelines count signings differently, but no two releases use the same yardstick.

The hotel count has barely moved through all of those announcements. The Arabian Travel Market update said Rotana [currently operates 76 hotels](https://www.hotelnewsresource.com/article131373.html), the October 2024 report said it [currently operates 82 hotels](https://www.hospitalitynet.org/news/4124021), the April 2025 interview cited [about 80 hotels](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/jobs/rotana-vacancies-career-opportunities), and this week Barnes put it at [around 80 hotels](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/uae-hotel-group-rotana-to-hire-5000-staff-as-hotel-group-plans-40-new-properties). Headcount tells a similar story. The forecast of [over 11,000 employees](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/jobs/rotana-vacancies-career-opportunities) still has time to land, but today the company [employs roughly 10,000 people](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/uae-hotel-group-rotana-to-hire-5000-staff-as-hotel-group-plans-40-new-properties).

Even the timeline shifts inside a single article. The standfirst of [the September interview](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/uae-hotel-group-rotana-to-hire-5000-staff-as-hotel-group-plans-40-new-properties) says Rotana will open properties [over the next six years](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/uae-hotel-group-rotana-to-hire-5000-staff-as-hotel-group-plans-40-new-properties), while the body says the jobs come [over the next five to six years](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/uae-hotel-group-rotana-to-hire-5000-staff-as-hotel-group-plans-40-new-properties). The gap is small, but it is a reminder that these are planning horizons, not start dates.

What the news coverage skips is who will sign your contract. The Islamabad hotel rests on [a franchise agreement with Signature Complex LLP Islamabad](https://www.breakingtravelnews.com/news/article/rotanas-first-hotel-in-pakistan/), and the Mogadishu hotel will be run by Aleph Hospitality, whose founder called it [what will be our first hotel in Somalia](https://hotelandcatering.com/news/rotana-unveils-plans-for-mogadishu-rotana-the-first-ever-five-star-hotel-in-somalia). When a brand franchises its name or hands daily operations to a management company, the name on the building and the company on your payslip can differ. For a worker that affects who sets pay, who handles a complaint and who sponsors a work permit.

Rotana's own careers site is the other primary document worth reading closely. [The official Rotana careers portal](https://www.rotanacareers.com/) lists locations for [Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, Türkiye, UAE](https://www.rotanacareers.com/). Pakistan, Somalia and Georgia were not on that location list when we read it. Its footer also links to sections for students and graduates, GCC nationals and recruitment fraud, which is as much as the coverage or the portal itself tells a candidate about how hiring for the new hotels will run.

## What this means for your job search

Our read is that this is a strong but slow signal, not a hiring rush. A group that [shared salary reductions for a period but cut no jobs or properties](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/uae-hotel-group-rotana-to-hire-5000-staff-as-hotel-group-plans-40-new-properties) during a downturn is showing the kind of employer behavior workers should weigh heavily, and a plan of this size is real demand. But the pipeline has been restated several times, the portfolio count moved from [76 hotels](https://www.hotelnewsresource.com/article131373.html) and [82 hotels](https://www.hospitalitynet.org/news/4124021) in earlier updates to [around 80 hotels](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/uae-hotel-group-rotana-to-hire-5000-staff-as-hotel-group-plans-40-new-properties) today, and the chief executive himself warns the numbers shrink. Expect openings to arrive hotel by hotel as each building nears completion, not as one wave next month. The workers who benefit most will be the ones already in the system when each property starts recruiting.

Start with the roles, because they follow the floor plan. Every hotel needs front office, housekeeping, kitchen, restaurant and maintenance teams, and the planned amenities show where the extra seats sit. Be careful with anyone else offering Rotana jobs. The careers portal carries [a Recruitment Fraud link in its footer](https://www.rotanacareers.com/), and a big public hiring number is exactly the kind of headline that scammers borrow. Do not pay a fee to secure a hotel job, and check that any offer maps to a real vacancy you can see on the official portal. If someone contacts you on a messaging app claiming to recruit for a new Rotana hotel, ask for the vacancy reference and confirm it yourself.

Ask who issues the contract before you accept. Get the legal employer's name in writing, along with housing, transport, leave and notice terms. Lead your CV with opening experience if you have it. A hotel getting ready to open needs people who can set up systems, train new colleagues and hold standards while everything is new.
