[Safran Landing Systems](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23) opened a US$22 million, 7,500 square metre extension of its landing gear maintenance centre in Singapore on September 22, and the site that already employs 360 people is expected to create [nearly 100 new jobs by 2030](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23). The [release's only timeline is 2030](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23), so this is a multi-year build, not a job fair, and when we checked the [group's Singapore job board](https://www.safran-group.com/jobs?countries%5B%5D=1374-singapore) three days after the opening, it listed no technician openings at the Loyang site. For aircraft technicians, machinists, inspectors and people thinking of switching into aviation, the release ties the new jobs to a [new overhaul assembly line](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23) at the site. For [Metaintro](https://www.metaintro.com) readers, the useful pages are the employer's own job board and the government training pages, which show how a worker can actually get hired. Here is what the new line does, when the jobs come and how to get ready for them.

## What Did Safran Open in Singapore, and How Many Jobs Come With It?

The new building holds a [state of the art assembly line for landing gear overhauls](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23), built to add capacity and flexibility for airlines across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. The investment was [supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23), and the company frames it as a commitment to [strengthening Singapore's role as a strategic hub](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23) for aircraft maintenance in the Asia-Pacific region.

The jobs figure has two parts, and both matter. The site [currently employs 360 people](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23), and the expansion is expected to create nearly 100 new jobs by 2030, alongside what the company calls a strong commitment to continuous training and talent development, and the [release](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23) does not list any vacancies for those jobs.

The release also names [employee well-being](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23) as integral to the new facility. The new building carries [2,800 square metres of solar panels](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23) made up of 800 panels, LED lighting and advanced cooling meant to give staff a more comfortable working environment, with the solar expected to cover about 60% of the site's power use.

The opening ceremony drew the [French ambassador to Singapore and the MRO executive vice president of Safran Landing Systems](https://www.aerotime.aero/articles/safran-launches-expanded-singapore-mro-center-following-22-million-investment).

## When Will the Nearly 100 Jobs Actually Open?

The [company's release](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23) does not give a start date for hiring. The only timeline in the company's own release is [by 2030](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23), and the release gives no year by year hiring plan and no split by job type.

On that same check, the [Safran job openings page filtered to Singapore](https://www.safran-group.com/jobs?countries%5B%5D=1374-singapore) showed a short list across several Safran companies, from a customer account manager at its helicopter engine business to purchasing and quality roles. Only one listing sat at the Loyang landing gear address, and it was a [repair management role in customer services and support](https://www.safran-group.com/jobs/singapore/21-loyang-cresent-singapore-508985/repair-management-executive-sbh-177433), not a technician seat.

Because the release does not say which roles the new jobs will be, the practical move is to build a qualification now and watch the group's [job board](https://www.safran-group.com/jobs?countries%5B%5D=1374-singapore), which tells candidates to contact Safran through their candidate area if they doubt a job offer.

## What Work Happens Inside a Landing Gear Overhaul Shop?

The Singapore site offers [end to end MRO capabilities, including disassembly, inspection, machining, surface treatment, assembly, and final certification](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23). The [release](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23) does not say which of those steps the new jobs will staff, so the list tells [machinists](https://www.metaintro.com/blog/machinist-certification-manufacturing-career), platers, inspectors and assemblers where their skills sit in the process, not whether they will be hired.

The joint venture's profile on the [SIA Engineering Company website](https://www.siaec.com.sg/supporting_network/jv_safran_landing_systems_services.html) gives a clearer picture of the floor. It lists a Landing Gear Service Centre and a Component and Accessory Service Centre in a facility that spans [over 130,000 square feet](https://www.siaec.com.sg/supporting_network/jv_safran_landing_systems_services.html), with equipment including robotic shot peening, a large magnetic particle inspection machine, a new plating line, plastic media blasting machines, a hydrogen de-embrittlement oven and high pressure test benches. Its machine shop, plating shop and landing gear shop have been [expanded and reorganized to streamline workflows](https://www.siaec.com.sg/supporting_network/jv_safran_landing_systems_services.html) and increase capacity.

If you are sizing up where you might fit, map your skills onto that equipment list:

- **Machining.** The site lists a [Danobat grinding machine](https://www.siaec.com.sg/supporting_network/jv_safran_landing_systems_services.html) among its equipment and has an expanded machine shop, so grinding experience maps onto that work.
- **Surface treatment.** The site has its own [plating shop along with plastic media blasting machines](https://www.siaec.com.sg/supporting_network/jv_safran_landing_systems_services.html).
- **Inspection.** The site lists a [large magnetic particle inspection machine](https://www.siaec.com.sg/supporting_network/jv_safran_landing_systems_services.html) among its equipment, and inspection is one of the MRO steps named in the [release](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23).
- **Assembly and test.** The extension is built around an [assembly line for landing gear overhauls](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23), and the site lists [high pressure, high flow test benches](https://www.siaec.com.sg/supporting_network/jv_safran_landing_systems_services.html).

The investment is also meant to bring [advanced repair technologies](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23) to Singapore and widen the range of repairs done there.

> The Loyang site already employs [360 people and is expected to add nearly 100 new jobs by 2030](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23), with training and talent development promised alongside the new overhaul line.

## Which Aircraft and Airlines Will Keep the New Line Busy?

The site covers a wide spread of fleets, including the [Airbus A320 family, A330, A350, A380, as well as Boeing 737, 787, and ATR regional aircraft](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23).

New work is already arriving. A day after the opening, the company and Taiwan's [China Airlines unveiled a landing gear overhaul agreement](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/china-airlines-selects-safran-airbus-a350-900-landing-gear-overhaul-program-2026-09-23) covering the main landing gears of its fleet of 18 Airbus A350-900 aircraft, running from 2026 through 2031. The maintenance will be performed at the [Singapore MRO centre](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/china-airlines-selects-safran-airbus-a350-900-landing-gear-overhaul-program-2026-09-23), and the deal was signed at the Singapore facility during the MRO Asia-Pacific event. The same carrier already [relies on the company for its A330 landing gear work](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/china-airlines-selects-safran-airbus-a350-900-landing-gear-overhaul-program-2026-09-23).

The longer term plan points the same way. In June, Safran Landing Systems described a network built on [three strategic sites in Molsheim, Singapore and Querétaro](https://www.safran-group.com/news/boeing-787-airbus-a350-a330-safran-landing-systems-expands-its-global-mro-capabilities-2026-06-10), and the Singapore site has already delivered its first overhauled landing gear on the Boeing 787 program. The same update expects Singapore and Molsheim to be fully operational on the A350 program in the short term, and all three sites to be [operational on the A330 program, including the Neo, by 2027](https://www.safran-group.com/news/boeing-787-airbus-a350-a330-safran-landing-systems-expands-its-global-mro-capabilities-2026-06-10).

For a technician weighing which aircraft types to learn, widebody gear on the 787, A350 and A330 is where [that June update](https://www.safran-group.com/news/boeing-787-airbus-a350-a330-safran-landing-systems-expands-its-global-mro-capabilities-2026-06-10) puts the new overhaul investment.

## Who Owns the Loyang Site, and What Does the SIA Engineering Link Mean for Workers?

The business is a joint venture. [Safran Landing Systems holds 60% and SIA Engineering Company holds 40%](https://www.siaec.com.sg/supporting_network/jv_safran_landing_systems_services.html) of Safran Landing Systems Services Singapore, which sits at 21 Loyang Crescent. The site was [established in 1979](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23) and has been a strategic partner of SIA Engineering Company since 2000.

Safran's wider footprint in the country is larger than this one site. On its current Singapore page, the group describes a presence of [over 45 years with nearly 900 employees](https://www.safran-group.com/countries/singapore) spread over five production, engineering and maintenance sites. The [same page](https://www.safran-group.com/countries/singapore) calls Singapore the group's regional MRO platform.

For job seekers, the joint venture partner also shows up in training. SIA Engineering Company is the collaborator on a [Singapore Polytechnic aircraft maintenance course](https://www.sp.edu.sg/pace/courses/all-courses/course-details/%28sctp%29-aircraft-maintenance-for-technician) for career switchers, covered below. Listings for this site appear under Safran Landing Systems on the [group's job board](https://www.safran-group.com/jobs?countries%5B%5D=1374-singapore).

## What Was Safran Hiring for at Loyang Three Days After the Opening?

At our check three days after the opening, the one Loyang listing on the board was a [Repair Management Executive role](https://www.safran-group.com/jobs/singapore/21-loyang-cresent-singapore-508985/repair-management-executive-sbh-177433) for a support by the hour program, first posted on May 5. The [listing](https://www.safran-group.com/jobs/singapore/21-loyang-cresent-singapore-508985/repair-management-executive-sbh-177433) is permanent and full time, asks for a diploma level qualification and more than five years of experience, and asks for fluent English.

The duties give a feel for how a landing gear repair business runs behind the workshop. The role tracks [end to end repair activities with all MROs](https://www.safran-group.com/jobs/singapore/21-loyang-cresent-singapore-508985/repair-management-executive-sbh-177433), creates repair orders in SAP, follows shipments with freight forwarders and checks certificates, shop reports and times and cycles against customer requirements. The requirements list asks for [5 to 8 years](https://www.safran-group.com/jobs/singapore/21-loyang-cresent-singapore-508985/repair-management-executive-sbh-177433) in operations, supply chain or repair management, knowledge of SAP and strong customer orientation, with French as an added advantage.

The [listing](https://www.safran-group.com/jobs/singapore/21-loyang-cresent-singapore-508985/repair-management-executive-sbh-177433) does not state a salary.

One safety point. The group's job board warns that [Safran recruiters will never ask you for personal information](https://www.safran-group.com/jobs?countries%5B%5D=1374-singapore) such as bank account details or social security numbers. Apply through the official board, and treat any message asking for banking details as a scam.

## How Do School Leavers Train for Aircraft Maintenance in Singapore?

One clear entry route runs through ITE. The [Higher Nitec in Aerospace Engineering](https://www.ite.edu.sg/course-finder/higher-nitec-in-aerospace-engineering/) runs for 24 months and teaches a dual trade skill set, mechanical and avionics, covering aircraft structures, systems, engines, electrical systems and avionics. It is a [SAR-147 course currently approved](https://www.ite.edu.sg/course-finder/higher-nitec-in-aerospace-engineering/) by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore.

The entry bar is set out plainly. Applicants with O level results need [grade 1 to 8 in English, grade 1 to 7 in Mathematics](https://www.ite.edu.sg/course-finder/higher-nitec-in-aerospace-engineering/) and grade 1 to 8 in an approved science or technical subject, or can qualify through a Nitec GPA. The page adds two conditions. Applicants must be [free from colour appreciation deficiency](https://www.ite.edu.sg/course-finder/higher-nitec-in-aerospace-engineering/), and students must buy a laptop on top of the course fees, with help available to eligible students through the ITE Opportunity Fund.

Graduates go on to job titles such as [Aircraft Technician (Dual trade), Aircraft Maintenance Technician and Aircraft Structural Repair Technician](https://www.ite.edu.sg/course-finder/higher-nitec-in-aerospace-engineering/), among others. From the AY2027 polytechnic intake, graduates with a [net GPA of 2.5 and above](https://www.ite.edu.sg/course-finder/higher-nitec-in-aerospace-engineering/) may also apply to the first year of a related polytechnic diploma.

For graduates of listed ITE engineering courses and for in-service workers, the [Work-Study Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering](https://www.ite.edu.sg/course-finder/work-study-diploma-in-aircraft-maintenance-engineering/) runs for 30 months on a block release pattern, alternating classroom blocks at ITE with on the job training at an employer. In-service employees can enter with equivalent qualifications, a [minimum age of 18](https://www.ite.edu.sg/course-finder/work-study-diploma-in-aircraft-maintenance-engineering/), at least two years of full time relevant work experience and strong employer endorsement. The course lists a progression path to [Senior Aircraft Technician, Lead Technician, Aircraft Engineer and Supervisor](https://www.ite.edu.sg/course-finder/work-study-diploma-in-aircraft-maintenance-engineering/).

## Can Mid-Career Workers Switch Into Aerospace Maintenance?

Yes, Singapore has two routes into the aerospace sector for mid-career workers, and one of them is built for maintenance.

The first is a short train and place course. Singapore Polytechnic runs a [SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme in aircraft maintenance](https://www.sp.edu.sg/pace/courses/all-courses/course-details/%28sctp%29-aircraft-maintenance-for-technician) of 124 hours, in collaboration with SIA Engineering Company, aimed at roles such as aircraft technician, aircraft cabin technician and aircraft component workshop technician. It is meant for people who are [working and seeking a new position](https://www.sp.edu.sg/pace/courses/all-courses/course-details/%28sctp%29-aircraft-maintenance-for-technician) and for people who are unemployed and returning to the workforce. When we checked it three days after the Safran opening, the [course page](https://www.sp.edu.sg/pace/courses/all-courses/course-details/%28sctp%29-aircraft-maintenance-for-technician) listed the course date and registration period as TBA and offered a register interest option.

The second is paid on the job conversion. The [Career Conversion Programme for Aerospace Officer and Aerospace Executive](https://conversion.mycareersfuture.gov.sg/portal/ProgramDetails.aspx?ProgID=P00002155), managed by the Association of Aerospace Industries (Singapore), helps employers hire and reskill [mid-career workers](https://www.metaintro.com/blog/breaking-into-industry-you-dont-know-biggest-advantage-2026). It is open to Singapore citizens and permanent residents [aged 21 and above](https://conversion.mycareersfuture.gov.sg/portal/ProgramDetails.aspx?ProgID=P00002155) who have not worked in a similar role before, and new hires must have finished school or NS at least two years before applying. Training is [100% structured on the job training](https://conversion.mycareersfuture.gov.sg/portal/ProgramDetails.aspx?ProgID=P00002155), and a new hire's programme lasts nine months.

The salary support is [reimbursed to the employer](https://conversion.mycareersfuture.gov.sg/portal/ProgramDetails.aspx?ProgID=P00002155), subject to funding availability and approval, and the programme says it aims to lower the barrier to entry for mid-career individuals. The [standard rate covers up to 70% of monthly salary](https://conversion.mycareersfuture.gov.sg/portal/ProgramDetails.aspx?ProgID=P00002155), capped at $5,000 a month, for citizens and permanent residents below 40. An [enhanced rate of up to 90%, capped at $7,500 a month](https://conversion.mycareersfuture.gov.sg/portal/ProgramDetails.aspx?ProgID=P00002155), applies to trainees aged 40 and above or those unemployed and job hunting for six months or more. You still have to win the job first, since a candidate must be [offered employment](https://conversion.mycareersfuture.gov.sg/portal/ProgramDetails.aspx?ProgID=P00002155) by a participating company before starting.

> Employers hiring mid-career switchers into aerospace can receive salary support of [up to 90% of monthly salary](https://conversion.mycareersfuture.gov.sg/portal/ProgramDetails.aspx?ProgID=P00002155) for trainees aged 40 and above, subject to funding availability and approval.

## Do You Need a CAAS Aircraft Maintenance Licence?

It depends on the job. A licence from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore is required to [perform or supervise maintenance work, or certify maintenance work](https://www.caas.gov.sg/personnel-licensing/aircraft-maintenance-personnel/), on a Singapore-registered aircraft of a particular type. Before issuing a maintenance certification, you must also be [authorised by an approved maintenance organisation](https://www.caas.gov.sg/personnel-licensing/aircraft-maintenance-personnel/). Job listings set their own requirements, and the one Loyang listing at our check three days after the opening, a [repair management role](https://www.safran-group.com/jobs/singapore/21-loyang-cresent-singapore-508985/repair-management-executive-sbh-177433), did not ask for an AML.

If you do go for it, the rules are clear. To apply, you must be [at least 21 years old](https://www.caas.gov.sg/personnel-licensing/aircraft-maintenance-personnel/) and working for, or preparing to start work with, an approved SAR-145 maintenance organisation. You must [pass the relevant exams](https://www.caas.gov.sg/personnel-licensing/aircraft-maintenance-personnel/) and have the required experience set out in the SAR-66 rules. Complete applications take [about 10 working days](https://www.caas.gov.sg/personnel-licensing/aircraft-maintenance-personnel/) to process, and a licence is valid for up to two years, with renewal due at least three months before expiry through the CAPELS online system.

People who want to start the licence route can enrol in a [CAAS approved Maintenance Training Organisation](https://www.caas.gov.sg/personnel-licensing/aircraft-maintenance-personnel/), while the [ITE Higher Nitec](https://www.ite.edu.sg/course-finder/higher-nitec-in-aerospace-engineering/) above is a SAR-147 course approved by the same authority. If aviation is your target, check that a course carries that approval before you enrol.

## How Big Is Singapore's Aerospace Job Market Beyond Safran?

The Safran line is one piece of a wider build. Singapore's aerospace industry contributes [10% of global MRO output](https://www.edb.gov.sg/en/our-industries/aerospace.html), saw 19% year on year growth in aerospace output in 2024 and counts more than 130 players across the aerospace industry. The same government page projects the global MRO market to grow by [over 30 per cent in the next decade](https://www.edb.gov.sg/en/our-industries/aerospace.html), and expects the Asia Pacific fleet to nearly triple to more than 21,500 aircraft by 2043.

The industry created [nearly 3,000 jobs between 2021 and 2023](https://www.edb.gov.sg/en/business-insights/insights/aerospace-advancements-create-jobs-that-singaporeans-will-want-to-take-up-edb-vice-president.html), with some 2,500 more expected in the next three to five years, according to a September 2025 Business Times report republished by the Economic Development Board. In the [same piece](https://www.edb.gov.sg/en/business-insights/insights/aerospace-advancements-create-jobs-that-singaporeans-will-want-to-take-up-edb-vice-president.html), an EDB vice president said the government works with investing companies to "train in advance and train in excess" so that they have a wider pool of workers ready for new MRO work.

Other employers are growing too. The same [government investment page](https://www.edb.gov.sg/en/our-industries/aerospace.html) points to a 40 per cent expansion of engine MRO capacity by Singapore Aero Engine Services and four new widebody hangars built by ST Engineering.

## What This Means for Job Seekers, and What Should You Do Next?

What this means for job seekers is that the [nearly 100 jobs](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23) have a 2030 target, and the release does not include a hiring schedule. Those jobs sit in a shop with an [A350 overhaul contract that runs through 2031](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/china-airlines-selects-safran-airbus-a350-900-landing-gear-overhaul-program-2026-09-23), [investment support from the Singapore Economic Development Board](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23) and new [widebody overhaul investment](https://www.safran-group.com/news/boeing-787-airbus-a350-a330-safran-landing-systems-expands-its-global-mro-capabilities-2026-06-10). With no hiring dates published, the time before roles are posted is the time to train.

The release ties the expansion to an [overhaul assembly line and advanced repair technologies](https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/safran-inaugurates-new-industrial-capabilities-its-singapore-mro-site-2026-09-23) but does not say which roles the new jobs will be. The one office role listed at Loyang at that check, in [repair management](https://www.safran-group.com/jobs/singapore/21-loyang-cresent-singapore-508985/repair-management-executive-sbh-177433), asked for more than five years of experience.

Here is what we would do now:

- **Pick a route that fits your stage.** School leavers can look at the ITE Higher Nitec. Working adults can look at the work-study diploma or the Singapore Polytechnic transition course.
- **If you are mid-career, look for CCP roles.** Search for CCP supportable aerospace roles on the MyCareersFuture portal, which is where the [programme page](https://conversion.mycareersfuture.gov.sg/portal/ProgramDetails.aspx?ProgID=P00002155) tells job seekers to apply.
- **Learn the widebody types.** The 787, A350 and A330 are where the [company is adding overhaul work](https://www.safran-group.com/news/boeing-787-airbus-a350-a330-safran-landing-systems-expands-its-global-mro-capabilities-2026-06-10).
- **Bring proof of precision.** Machining, NDT or plating experience from another industry is worth putting at the top of your CV.
- **Check the official board.** Search Safran Landing Systems in Singapore and check back every few months.
- **Ignore anyone asking for bank details.** Safran's [own job board](https://www.safran-group.com/jobs?countries%5B%5D=1374-singapore) says its recruiters never will.

If you are an experienced aircraft technician elsewhere, the [CAAS licensing page](https://www.caas.gov.sg/personnel-licensing/aircraft-maintenance-personnel/) confirms that a foreign licence can be converted and lists who is eligible.
