Demand for AI skills in Singapore job ads [has more than tripled from January 2024 to August 2026](https://sg.jobstreet.com/about/news/article/jobstreet-ai-gauge-sg-2026), and AI-related ads on Jobstreet rose from [1.3% of all job ads in January 2024 to 5.1% in August 2026](https://sg.jobstreet.com/about/news/article/jobstreet-ai-gauge-sg-2026). The data comes from [Jobstreet by SEEK](https://sg.jobstreet.com/about/news/article/jobstreet-ai-gauge-sg-2026), whose economics team counts job ads on its own platform that include at least one AI-related term, and the full [Jobstreet AI Gauge report for Singapore](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi) is dated October 2026. For [Metaintro](https://www.metaintro.com) readers in Singapore, this guide covers which AI skills employers name, which industries and job titles are asking for them, what two sample job ads require, and where to train.

## What Did the Jobstreet AI Gauge Find in Singapore?

The headline finding is growth from a small base. Demand for AI-related skills [has more than tripled from January 2024 to August 2026, although the overall share of AI-related ads remains a small proportion of total job ads](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi).

In share terms, AI-related ads on Jobstreet went [from 1.3% in January 2024 to 5.1% in August 2026](https://www.hcamag.com/asia/specialisation/recruitment/job-ads-mentioning-ai-more-than-triple-in-singapore/594530), a [sustained upward trend despite still accounting for only a relatively small share of overall hiring activity](https://www.hcamag.com/asia/specialisation/recruitment/job-ads-mentioning-ai-more-than-triple-in-singapore/594530).

Four themes stand out. Machine learning terms [appear most frequently among AI-related skills in job ads, while agentic AI-related terms saw the fastest annual growth from August 2025 to August 2026](https://sg.jobstreet.com/about/news/article/jobstreet-ai-gauge-sg-2026). The other two are the sector spread, led by information and communication technology, and Singapore's place among the [semiconductor and hardware export hubs](https://sg.jobstreet.com/about/news/article/jobstreet-ai-gauge-sg-2026) benefiting from the wider AI boom.

The gauge has clear limits. It [captures only one aspect of AI's impact on the labour market, demand for AI skills](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi), and it [does not measure broader changes in the labour market or changes in hirer and candidate behaviour](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi).

## How Does the Gauge Decide That a Job Ad Is an AI Job Ad?

The method is a word search. The gauge works by [counting the number of job ads on Jobstreet that include at least one AI-related term](https://sg.jobstreet.com/about/news/article/jobstreet-ai-gauge-sg-2026), and the terms are [roughly classified into 12 indicative non-mutually exclusive categories](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi) such as machine learning, computer vision, generative AI and agentic AI.

The term list keeps changing. Jobstreet [will continue to add more AI-related terms as they emerge and become relevant](https://sg.jobstreet.com/about/news/article/jobstreet-ai-gauge-sg-2026), and [the full list of AI terms the gauge uses](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi) includes agent orchestration frameworks, AI governance, AWS SageMaker and Azure AI Studio.

A word search has weak spots. Some terms [like deep learning and boosting can result in false positives](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi), because a school might advertise a deep learning culture. Messages to applicants about AI screening also tend to sit at the end of an ad, so [the last 500 characters of job ads have been ignored](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi), and [false positives may have slipped through](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi).

## Which AI Skills Are Singapore Employers Asking For Most?

Machine learning [appeared in the largest share of AI-related job ads in Singapore in the last two years](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi), and it is still growing. In the three months to August 2026, [ads mentioning machine learning were 93% higher than in the same period a year earlier, the fastest growth across SEEK markets](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi). The share of AI ads that mention it [has declined over time](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi).

Ads mentioning generative AI terms were [92.5% higher in the three months to August 2026 than in the same period a year earlier](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi), amid growing mentions of terms such as [text generation, foundation models, and GPT](https://www.hcamag.com/asia/specialisation/recruitment/job-ads-mentioning-ai-more-than-triple-in-singapore/594530).

Mentions of agentic AI in job ads were [up 460% y/y from August 2025 to August 2026](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi), while demand for AI ethics skills grew [at a markedly slower pace than agentic AI, at 132% y/y](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi). The ethics and governance figure covers [job ads mentioning AI ethics and governance](https://www.hcamag.com/asia/specialisation/recruitment/job-ads-mentioning-ai-more-than-triple-in-singapore/594530) and reflects demand for the skills needed to deploy AI responsibly.

Not every AI skill is rising. Ads mentioning computer vision were [22.5% lower than a year earlier over the same period](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi) in Singapore, even as Indonesia and Malaysia recorded triple-digit growth.

> By analysing job ads over time, we can see which skills employers are seeking and where opportunities are emerging, SEEK chief economist Dr Blair Chapman said, according to [the HRD Asia report](https://www.hcamag.com/asia/specialisation/recruitment/job-ads-mentioning-ai-more-than-triple-in-singapore/594530).

## Which Industries and Job Titles Are Asking for AI Skills?

Information and communication technology is far ahead. The share of ICT ads mentioning AI terms [rose from an average of 7.2% in the six months to August 2024 to 21.3% in the six months to August 2026](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi). The AI roles in rising demand here [develop and deploy custom large and small language models, build the databases and infrastructure that support them, and enable the use of external AI models](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi).

AI terms are also spreading to other fields. Science and technology had a considerable share of AI-related ads in 2026, [including ads for technical roles such as data scientists and research officers](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi). In advertising, arts and media, the AI share of ads [jumped from 2.3% to 10.2%](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi) between the same six-month periods of 2024 and 2026, driven by roles such as content lead, correspondent and video editor.

Those gains [suggest AI skill demand is spreading beyond core tech roles into adjacent professional and creative fields](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi), according to SEEK Economics. Demand stays low in physically oriented industries such as [Sport & Recreation, Hospitality & Tourism and Construction](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi), which saw only marginal change over the two years.

The job titles have shifted too. On Jobstreet, the [most common role titles](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi) with AI-related skills were these.

- In 2024, [data scientist, software engineer and software developer](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi).
- In 2026, [AI engineer, software engineer and automation engineer](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi).

Newer titles include [full-stack AI engineer and AI solutions engineer, which are evolutions of traditional IT roles with a more AI focus](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi).

## How Does Singapore Compare With Other SEEK Markets?

Singapore sits near the top of the region. It had the [third-highest share of AI job ads across SEEK's eight Asia-Pacific markets, behind Hong Kong (6.6%) and Thailand (5.2%)](https://www.hcamag.com/asia/specialisation/recruitment/job-ads-mentioning-ai-more-than-triple-in-singapore/594530).

Among other factors, the gaps between markets are [influenced by the sectoral and industry composition of a country](https://sg.jobstreet.com/about/news/article/jobstreet-ai-gauge-sg-2026).

On growth, Singapore stands out for machine learning. Ads mentioning machine learning in Singapore [grew by 93% over the past year, "the fastest annual growth among the APAC markets where we operate"](https://www.hcamag.com/asia/specialisation/recruitment/job-ads-mentioning-ai-more-than-triple-in-singapore/594530), said Esther Lee, managing director at Jobstreet Singapore. For generative AI, growth in Singapore was [faster than growth in the Philippines and Australia, but slower than in New Zealand, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi).

## Do AI Skills Pay More in Singapore?

Pay is not covered by the Jobstreet gauge, so a second dataset helps here. Job postings had an [AI share of 5.3% in Singapore in 2025, up from the prior year's 3.3%](https://www.pwc.com/sg/en/publications/ai-jobs-barometer.html), in a PwC analysis of [about 1.6 million Singapore job postings from January to December 2025](https://www.pwc.com/sg/en/publications/ai-jobs-barometer.html) built on [Lightcast](https://www.pwc.com/sg/en/publications/ai-jobs-barometer.html) data. The two studies use different data and periods, so their shares should not be compared directly.

PwC also measured pay gaps. Its wage premium is [the difference between average advertised wages in AI-related postings and average advertised wages in non-AI postings within the same sector](https://www.pwc.com/sg/en/publications/ai-jobs-barometer.html), and every sector it looked at placed a premium on AI jobs. In 2025, [the Government and Public Sector showed a 107% wage premium for AI roles, while Consumer Markets provided a 96% AI wage premium](https://www.pwc.com/sg/en/publications/ai-jobs-barometer.html).

The two high figures [may reflect a more targeted demand for specialised roles](https://www.pwc.com/sg/en/publications/ai-jobs-barometer.html), according to PwC. In sectors where AI use is broad-based, [demand may be high but pay differentials more contained as these capabilities become part of everyday roles](https://www.pwc.com/sg/en/publications/ai-jobs-barometer.html), while [sectors with lower hiring volumes may still show higher wage premiums where demand is concentrated in more specialised roles](https://www.pwc.com/sg/en/publications/ai-jobs-barometer.html).

Most of the demand is for people who use AI, not people who build it. In Singapore, [around 82% of AI-related job postings are for AI user roles](https://www.pwc.com/sg/en/publications/ai-jobs-barometer.html), which PwC defines as jobs requiring [familiarity with AI (e.g. AI literacy, prompt engineering) and applied AI skills (e.g. data analytics, ML algorithms)](https://www.pwc.com/sg/en/publications/ai-jobs-barometer.html). AI user roles accounted for [about +26,000](https://www.pwc.com/sg/en/publications/ai-jobs-barometer.html) of the 2025 increase, while AI developer roles grew by [around +4,200](https://e27.co/ai-user-roles-surge-as-singapore-pivots-from-specialist-to-mainstream-hires-20260615/).

## Is AI Replacing Jobs in Singapore or Reshaping Them?

The government's own survey points to reshaping for now. There was [no indication of significant job displacement at this point](https://mom.gov.sg/newsroom/press-releases/2026/0430-adoption-of-ai-among-firms), according to the Ministry of Manpower's first report on AI adoption among firms, released on [30 April 2026](https://mom.gov.sg/newsroom/press-releases/2026/0430-adoption-of-ai-among-firms).

The figures behind that line are these.

- Only [6.2% of firms reported reduced headcount after adopting AI](https://mom.gov.sg/newsroom/press-releases/2026/0430-adoption-of-ai-among-firms).
- Firms were instead [redesigning roles (18.9%) and creating new AI-related jobs (13.9%)](https://mom.gov.sg/newsroom/press-releases/2026/0430-adoption-of-ai-among-firms), with the same two figures given for [the first quarter of 2026](https://e27.co/ai-user-roles-surge-as-singapore-pivots-from-specialist-to-mainstream-hires-20260615/).
- A [majority of firms (71.5%) have yet to adopt AI](https://mom.gov.sg/newsroom/press-releases/2026/0430-adoption-of-ai-among-firms), and only 3.8% were integrating it into core processes.

Adoption is highest in sectors such as [Information and Communications (74.1%), Professional Services (57.5%), and Financial and Insurance Services (56.4%)](https://mom.gov.sg/newsroom/press-releases/2026/0430-adoption-of-ai-among-firms). In the survey, "firms" means [private sector establishments with at least 10 employees](https://mom.gov.sg/newsroom/press-releases/2026/0430-adoption-of-ai-among-firms).

The ministry also named the risk for workers. It warned that [workers who do not upskill "risk being left behind as AI transforms our day-to-day tasks"](https://mom.gov.sg/newsroom/press-releases/2026/0430-adoption-of-ai-among-firms). A separate survey found that [most surveyed Singapore workers use AI at work, while far fewer have had recent AI training](https://www.metaintro.com/blog/singapore-workers-ai-use-86-percent-training-37-percent).

> The increase in demand for talent with machine learning and other AI skills is a sign that AI is becoming part of how businesses operate here, Jobstreet Singapore managing director Esther Lee said, according to [the HRD Asia report](https://www.hcamag.com/asia/specialisation/recruitment/job-ads-mentioning-ai-more-than-triple-in-singapore/594530).

## What Training Support Can Singapore Workers Use?

[SkillsFuture Singapore and Workforce Singapore merged into the Skills and Workforce Development Agency (SWDA) earlier in 2026](https://sea.peoplemattersglobal.com/news/ai-and-emerging-tech/singapore-launches-workforce-portal-alongside-200-ai-courses-and-readiness-tools-52179), and [SWDA has rolled out a catalogue of more than 200 AI courses](https://sea.peoplemattersglobal.com/news/ai-and-emerging-tech/singapore-launches-workforce-portal-alongside-200-ai-courses-and-readiness-tools-52179) aimed at helping workers build practical AI capabilities.

- **AI readiness check.** [The AI Ready Quiz, built by SWDA with the Singapore Institute of Technology, measures users' current AI proficiency and recommends relevant courses](https://sea.peoplemattersglobal.com/news/ai-and-emerging-tech/singapore-launches-workforce-portal-alongside-200-ai-courses-and-readiness-tools-52179). Users [may be evaluated as AI Aware, AI Literate, or AI Fluent](https://mothership.sg/2026/09/free-6-months-access-premium-ai-tools-singapore/), and each person [will receive a personalised AI readiness profile via email](https://mothership.sg/2026/09/free-6-months-access-premium-ai-tools-singapore/).
- **Employer portal.** [The OurWorkforce portal, launched by SWDA, replaces the SkillsFuture for Business website](https://sea.peoplemattersglobal.com/news/ai-and-emerging-tech/singapore-launches-workforce-portal-alongside-200-ai-courses-and-readiness-tools-52179), and employers can [direct workers to the quiz through the OurWorkforce portal, which also hosts the AI course catalogue and tool subscription offering](https://sea.peoplemattersglobal.com/news/ai-and-emerging-tech/singapore-launches-workforce-portal-alongside-200-ai-courses-and-readiness-tools-52179).

There is also a hands-on practice offer. The SkillsFuture AI Subscription initiative was [first announced by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong during Budget 2026](https://mothership.sg/2026/09/free-6-months-access-premium-ai-tools-singapore/), and it [aims to help Singaporeans practise their acquired skills, strengthen AI proficiency, and build confidence in using AI](https://mothership.sg/2026/09/free-6-months-access-premium-ai-tools-singapore/). In Parliament in March, Manpower Minister Dr Tan See Leng said ["like learning a language, developing true fluency in AI comes from consistent use and building confidence through experimentation"](https://www.malaymail.com/news/singapore/2026/03/03/singapore-bets-on-six-months-of-free-ai-subscriptions-to-get-citizens-up-to-speed/211182). Since [16 September 2026, Singapore Citizens aged 18 and above receive a six-month complimentary subscription to a premium AI tool after attending an eligible AI course](https://mothership.sg/2026/09/free-6-months-access-premium-ai-tools-singapore/). Eligible courses [carry the "Free AI sub" label on MySkillsFuture](https://mothership.sg/2026/09/free-6-months-access-premium-ai-tools-singapore/), and [the course must start from Sep. 16 or later to be eligible for the free premium AI subscription](https://mothership.sg/2026/09/free-6-months-access-premium-ai-tools-singapore/). [Each person can redeem only one free subscription, regardless of how many eligible courses they have attended](https://mothership.sg/2026/09/free-6-months-access-premium-ai-tools-singapore/).

Redeeming it takes a few steps. After attending an eligible AI course, [you will get an email with details on redeeming your free premium AI subscription](https://mothership.sg/2026/09/free-6-months-access-premium-ai-tools-singapore/). [The email includes a request form where you can indicate your preferred AI tool to subscribe to](https://mothership.sg/2026/09/free-6-months-access-premium-ai-tools-singapore/), and [you need to fill up and submit the form within 60 days from the date of the notification email](https://mothership.sg/2026/09/free-6-months-access-premium-ai-tools-singapore/). [Changing the AI tool is not allowed once the request form is submitted](https://mothership.sg/2026/09/free-6-months-access-premium-ai-tools-singapore/).

Employers have their own route. Firms can tap the [Enterprise Workforce Transformation Package (EWTP) to undertake job redesign, reskilling and building the organisational capabilities needed to translate AI adoption into better workforce outcomes](https://mom.gov.sg/newsroom/press-releases/2026/0430-adoption-of-ai-among-firms), which is worth asking about if your employer is rolling out AI tools. At the Committee of Supply 2026, SkillsFuture Singapore said [SSG will also work with its industry partners to improve AI awareness and adoption of AI solutions and training among SMEs](https://www.skillsfuture.gov.sg/budget).

## What This Means for Job Seekers, and What Should You Do Next?

The data points in one direction. AI-related job ads on Jobstreet in Singapore [increased to 5.1% of all job ads in August 2026](https://sg.jobstreet.com/about/news/article/jobstreet-ai-gauge-sg-2026), in PwC's 2025 analysis most AI postings were [for AI user roles](https://www.pwc.com/sg/en/publications/ai-jobs-barometer.html) rather than developer roles, and the gauge [suggests AI skill demand is spreading beyond core tech roles into adjacent professional and creative fields](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi). AI is also [moving beyond specialist roles into a wider range of non-tech and hybrid positions](https://www.pwc.com/sg/en/publications/ai-jobs-barometer.html), according to PwC.

- **Match the words employers use.** The terms that count in the gauge are listed in [the Jobstreet AI Gauge appendix](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi). If you have used machine learning, generative AI or AI agents in real work, name the tool and the task on your resume rather than writing a vague line about AI.
- **Show results, not just tools.** Turn each AI task into a result with numbers, using the steps in [how to show AI skills on your resume and in interviews](https://www.metaintro.com/blog/how-to-show-ai-skills-on-your-resume-and-in-interviews).
- **Look at agentic and governance work.** Mentions of [agentic AI rose 460% and AI ethics 132% from August 2025 to August 2026](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi). The 2026 sample ad wanted someone who could [map manual procedures and translate them into automated agent workflows](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi).
- **Build a portfolio if you lack a degree.** That same ad accepted [equivalent practical experience supported by a portfolio of built AI projects](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi).
- **Use the free and subsidised routes.** Take [the AI Ready Quiz, which measures users' current AI proficiency and recommends relevant courses](https://sea.peoplemattersglobal.com/news/ai-and-emerging-tech/singapore-launches-workforce-portal-alongside-200-ai-courses-and-readiness-tools-52179), and note that [Singapore Citizens aged 18 and above receive a six-month complimentary subscription to a premium AI tool after attending an eligible AI course](https://mothership.sg/2026/09/free-6-months-access-premium-ai-tools-singapore/) that starts from 16 September 2026, with [only one free subscription per person](https://mothership.sg/2026/09/free-6-months-access-premium-ai-tools-singapore/).

The caution is scale. The share of AI ads [remains relatively small](https://ap-southeast-2-seek-apac.graphassets.com/AEzBCRO50TYyqbV6XzRDQz/cmvgevafjn1l0063uqczi4ooi).
