# How to Send a Text (SMS) to a Job Seeker

Text a member straight from their file in Metaintro. Here is how to turn texting on, start a text thread and follow what happens next.

## Reach Members Where They Are

Many job seekers read a text long before an email. Texting from Metaintro keeps every message in the member's file, so anyone picking up the case can see what was said.

## Before You Start: Turn On Texting (Admins)

Go to Settings, then Channels. Under Text threads, select Enable SMS text threads. You can also write your own opener, the first message a member receives. Leave it blank to use the Metaintro default. Select Save SMS.

## Step 1: Open the Member

From the Dashboard, select the member. Find the Text thread card on their file.

## Step 2: Add Their Phone Number

If the member's phone number is missing, enter it in Phone number, including the country code.

## Step 3: Record Their Consent

Tick the box confirming you recorded the member's consent to receive text messages. Only tick it if the member has actually agreed to receive texts.

## Step 4: Start the Thread

Select Start SMS thread. Metaintro sends the opener and shows Text thread started. The Opener status changes from Pending to Sent.

## Texting Many Members at Once

To send the same text to a group, select Outreach, then Send Message, and choose SMS as the channel. Pick your recipients, start from a template or write your own, then Review & Send. You can send now or select Schedule for Later. Keep texts short: a message over 160 characters is sent as more than one SMS.

## Frequently Asked Questions

**Can members stop texts?**

Yes. A member can reply STOP at any time. See How Job Seekers Opt In and Opt Out of Texts.

**Can I text on WhatsApp instead?**

Yes, if your admin turns on WhatsApp in Settings, Channels. WhatsApp uses an approved opener template, and you can reply for 24 hours after the member's last message.

**What if the button says to enable a channel?**

Texting is not turned on for your organization yet. Ask an admin to turn it on in Settings, Channels.

**Can I still log texts I sent from my own phone?**

Yes. Use Log check-in and choose Text as the method.
