# Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

How to set up, manage, and troubleshoot two-factor authentication on your Metaintro account.

Last updated: June 19, 2026[Security & Privacy](/help/category/security)

## What is Two-Factor Authentication?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a second layer of security to your Metaintro account. Even if someone knows your password, they cannot sign in without also having access to your authenticator app. This protects your account from phishing attacks, credential stuffing, and data breaches on other services where you may have reused a password.

## Setting Up 2FA

To enable 2FA on your Metaintro account:

1. Open your **Settings** from the top-right menu.
2. Navigate to the **Security** tab.
3. Click **Enable Two-Factor Authentication**.
4. Scan the QR code using your preferred authenticator app. Metaintro supports any TOTP-compatible app, including **Google Authenticator**, **Authy**, and **1Password**.
5. Enter the 6-digit code displayed in your app to confirm the setup.
6. Save your backup codes in a secure location.

Once enabled, you will be asked for a verification code each time you sign in.

#### Can't Scan the QR Code?

If your camera isn’t working, click **Enter code manually** below the QR code. This gives you a text key to enter directly into your authenticator app.

#### Setting Up on Multiple Devices

For added security, you can set up 2FA on more than one device — such as your phone and a backup device. During setup, scan the same QR code (or use the same key) on both devices so they generate identical codes.

If you’ve already completed setup and want to add another device later, disable 2FA and re-enable it, scanning the new QR code on both devices at the same time.

## Backup Codes

When you enable 2FA, Metaintro generates **10 one-time backup codes**. Each can be used once, so store them carefully — like spare keys.

You can keep them in a password manager, a printed copy in a secure place, or another protected location that isn’t your phone.

If you run out of codes or think they’ve been exposed, you can generate a new set anytime from your Security settings. This automatically invalidates all previous codes.

**Avoid taking screenshots of your backup codes** or storing them in your photo gallery or cloud storage. If you store them digitally, use an encrypted password manager.

## Tips and Best Practices

- **Use an authenticator app instead of SMS.** SMS can be intercepted through SIM-swap attacks; authenticator apps are safer.
- **Store backup codes securely.** Password managers like 1Password, Bitwarden, or Dashlane are ideal.
- **Set up a backup device.** This prevents lockouts if your main device is lost or unavailable.
- **Review your security settings regularly.** If anything changes, regenerate your backup codes and verify your setup.
- **Don’t screenshot QR or backup codes.** These can sync to cloud storage and reduce security.
- **Enable 2FA on your email as well.** Your email is the recovery point for most accounts — including Metaintro.

## Disabling 2FA

To turn off 2FA:

1. Go to **Settings → Security.**
2. Click **Disable Two-Factor Authentication.**
3. Confirm using your authenticator code or a backup code.

**Note:** If your organization requires 2FA, you won’t be able to disable it.

## Lost Your Phone?

If you no longer have access to your authenticator app, use a backup code to sign in. On the verification screen, select **Use a backup code** and enter one of your saved codes.

If you’ve also lost your backup codes, contact Metaintro support at [support@metaintro.com](mailto:support@metaintro.com). You’ll need to verify your identity, and recovery may take up to one business day.

## Organization-Wide 2FA Requirements

If you’re an admin, you can require 2FA for your entire organization:

1. Open **Organization Settings.**
2. Go to the **Security tab.**
3. Enable **Require 2FA for all members.**

All members will be prompted to set up 2FA before accessing the workspace.

## Why This Matters

Job searching involves sharing sensitive personal and professional information. Your Metaintro account may include your resume, applications, and recruiter conversations — all valuable to attackers. Enabling 2FA is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect that data.

## Frequently Asked Questions

**Q. Do I really need 2FA for a job search account?**

Yes. Your Metaintro account contains personal and professional data that can be used for identity theft or phishing. 2FA takes only a few seconds to set up and blocks most automated attacks.

**Q. What authenticator app should I use?**

Any TOTP-compatible app works, including Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password, Bitwarden, and Microsoft Authenticator. If you already use a password manager, its built-in 2FA feature is a convenient option.

**Q. Can I use SMS instead of an authenticator app?**

It’s not recommended. SMS codes can be intercepted through SIM-swap attacks. Authenticator apps generate codes directly on your device and offer stronger protection.
