## Coverage
Up to 50 valid published English Metaintro articles tagged layoffs, selected from the 150 newest candidate revisions. Invalid or duplicate candidates can shorten the window. This is editorial coverage, not a comprehensive layoff database, WARN register, or verified count of jobs lost. Article dates are not layoff event dates.

The reference_sources directory links to official agencies. These are reference links, not WARN notices ingested into items. State notice sources and federal guidance have different kinds; guidance is not an event dataset.

## Reading updates
- items contains up to 50 valid articles from the 150 newest candidate revisions, ordered by date_modified descending. Invalid and duplicate candidates can shorten this bounded window.
- id is stable for the CMS article. Deduplicate by id and compare date_modified for revisions.
- date_published and date_modified describe the article, not the underlying layoff event.
- checked_at describes the cached article retrieval time, not when reference sites updated.
- Cite each article's url. Follow its cited sources before extracting company, headcount, event date, or affected location.
- reference_sources contains id, name, publisher, jurisdiction, kind, url, and description. Follow the original publisher for current filings and amendments.

## Polling
Poll no more often than every five minutes. Retain ETag and send If-None-Match. A 304 means unchanged; keep your previous snapshot. A 503 means temporarily unavailable, not an empty result; honor Retry-After.

This is a bounded, at-most-50 article window, not a complete archive or durable change log. An article leaving the window does not prove deletion. Revalidation is request-driven; checked_at exposes the source snapshot age.
