A state notice reported on November 6, 2026, sets out layoffs by the current operator at the Oakland complex: Legends Global said in the notice that the 1,605 layoffs will be effective Dec. 31, when its contract at the complex expires. At Metaintro, we track layoffs, store closures and return-to-office mandates in our layoffs tracker.

How Many Workers Are Affected?

The notice covers the venue’s entire workforce. The report states that The Oakland Coliseum and Oakland Arena will lay off its entire staff, with the filing specifying the count and effective date.

The affected work spans several functions rather than a single department: Stagehands, hospitality, administration, janitorial and other workers are set to be let go. For workers across those functions, the notice establishes an employment transition tied to the operating contract.

Why Are the Layoffs Happening?

The timing follows the end of the current operating arrangement. The operator’s notice says the layoffs take effect when its contract at the complex expires.

The broader change involves a transfer from Alameda County and Oakland ownership to the Oak View Group and the Oakland Acquisition Company. That ownership transition is the backdrop to the layoff filing and the ongoing labor discussions.

What Happens Next for Union Workers?

Negotiations are focused on continued employment under the incoming ownership. The union represents about 360 employees who work in food and beverage concessions at the Coliseum and Arena.

Describing those discussions, the union’s representative said, “We are negotiating to make sure workers can keep their union, their wages, and their benefits too.” Another union representative described assurances about retaining union labor, but it hasn’t yet seen anything in writing.

What Should Affected Workers Do Next?

  • Keep copies of employment notices, pay records and benefit documents.

  • Ask your union representative about transition discussions and written employment terms.

  • Review benefit coverage and unemployment eligibility with the relevant administrators.

  • Update your resume with your responsibilities, skills and recent work experience.
