Texas Launches 13th Annual Hiring Initiative for Veterans and Families
Texas Workforce Commission initiates job program targeting veterans and families to boost employment opportunities.

Texas Workforce Commission's Commitment to Veterans
The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has officially launched its 13th annual statewide hiring initiative directed at veterans and their families, a pivotal program designed to strengthen job placement for those who have served in the armed forces. The commission's efforts respond to a significant need to ensure that those transitioning from military to civilian life have access to critical employment resources.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as of August 2023, the unemployment rate for veterans stands at approximately 3.2%, marking a decrease from the previous year. Despite this promising statistic, veterans still face unique challenges when entering the job market. This initiative aims not only to ease that transition but to celebrate the diverse skills that veterans bring to the civilian workforce
Bridging the Gap Between Veterans and Employment
The TWC's program, aptly named "Hiring Red, White and You!" underscores the importance placed on connecting veterans to suitable job opportunities across the state. This year's initiative will include job fairs across Texas, engaging multiple local employers dedicated to hiring veterans and their families. Events will not only focus on job placement but will also offer career counseling, resume workshops, and skills assessments
In alignment with TWC's mission, local chambers of commerce and community organizations will collaborate with employers in various sectors, ensuring that a wide array of jobs is available. Participating employers range from healthcare and engineering to IT and manufacturing, providing well-rounded options for attendees. According to TWC, over 150 events hosted statewide last year resulted in nearly 25,000 veterans gaining meaningful employment
The initiative has grown steadily; during the inaugural event in 2011, just over 100 employers participated, resulting in about 2,000 job placements. Fast forward to today, and the program boasts over 300 employers at various job fairs, showcasing a clear commitment to supporting Texas' veteran community.
