Plastomics was founded on the premise that crop biotechnology had been looking in the wrong place. For four decades, agricultural biotech focused almost exclusively on the plant nucleus — the most obvious site to insert a new gene. But some of the most important genes in agriculture aren't in the nucleus. They're in the chloroplast.
