How Metaintro Uses Your Location Data

Security & Privacy

Why Location Matters in a Job Search

Location is one of the most important factors in any job search. Whether you're looking for roles in your hometown, exploring opportunities in a new city, or targeting fully remote positions, giving Marsh a sense of where you want to work helps cut through the noise and surface jobs that actually fit your life.

Without location context, every search is a bit of a guess. With it, Marsh can prioritize nearby openings, respect remote-work restrictions, and give you salary ranges that reflect your real market.

How Metaintro Collects Your Location

Metaintro's approach is simple: we only know what you tell us. There's no GPS tracking and no background location monitoring. Instead, your location data is built passively as you use the app:

  • When you mention a city in a Thread ("Show me marketing jobs in Miami"), Marsh adds that location to your profile.
  • When you set a location in the filter panel, it's saved alongside your other preferences.
  • When you update your profile directly, any location you enter is included.

Over time, this creates a personalized list of the places you care about — without ever asking you to hand over precise coordinates.

No alt text provided

If you've just started using Metaintro and haven't searched for anything location-specific yet, you'll see an empty state that reads "No locations found. Your location data will appear here as you use the app." That's normal — it'll fill in as you explore jobs.

What Location Data Does for You

When Marsh knows where you want to work, your experience improves in several ways:

Surfacing Nearby Jobs

Marsh uses your location to prioritize openings in your area, so you see roles from local employers first instead of sifting through listings from across the country or world.

Filtering by Preferred Location

Your current location and your preferred work location don't have to be the same. Planning a move to Austin? Mention it in a Thread, and Marsh will start prioritizing Austin jobs — even if your profile currently shows a different city. You can target at the city, state, or country level depending on how broad you want your search.

Handling Remote Job Restrictions

Many remote positions have geographic restrictions based on tax laws, time zones, or company policies. Your location helps Marsh filter remote jobs accurately, so you only see roles actually available to someone where you are.

Personalized Alerts and Market Insights

Beyond basic search results, location data powers:

  • Targeted alerts for new openings in your preferred area.
  • Accurate salary context — since compensation varies significantly by geography.
  • Employer matching — companies hiring in your region are more likely to appear in your results.
  • Commute awareness — for in-office and hybrid roles, Marsh considers distance.
  • Local market insights — growing industries and in-demand roles in your area.

Managing Your Locations

You have full control over your location data. Here's how to view, add, or clear it.

From Settings

  1. Open Settings from the left sidebar.
  2. In the main settings view, scroll to the Locations section.
  3. Review any locations Metaintro has collected based on your activity.
  4. To remove a location, use the remove option next to that entry.
  5. To clear everything, remove each entry individually or contact support for a full reset.

Inside a Thread

The quickest way to adjust location for a specific search is directly in a Thread:

  • Tell Marsh what you want. Say "Show me product manager jobs in Berlin" and Marsh applies that location instantly.
  • Use the filter panel. Tap the filter icon next to the chat bar and set or change the location filter. Filters stay active for the entire Thread.

Your location preference inside a Thread is scoped to that conversation, so you can run multiple Threads targeting different cities or regions without changing your main profile. For example, one Thread for remote senior roles and another for Berlin-based hybrid roles — each with its own location context.

Your Privacy Is Protected

We take your location privacy seriously:

  • Only used for job search improvement. Your location makes search results, alerts, and matches more relevant — nothing else.
  • Never sold or shared. We don't sell or share your location with employers, advertisers, or third parties without your explicit permission.
  • You control the precision. Mentioning a general area (city, region, or country) is enough — you never need to share a precise address.
  • No background tracking. Metaintro doesn't use GPS, continuous tracking, or hidden location detection. What's in your Locations list is only what you've actively mentioned or entered.
  • Deletable anytime. Remove entries directly from Settings, or contact support@metaintro.com for a full data removal.
  • Transparent usage. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Do I have to share my location?

No — location sharing is completely optional. That said, providing at least a general area (even just a country) significantly improves the relevance of your results, since location is such a strong signal in any job search. You're always in control of how much or how little you share.

Q. Can I search for jobs in a different city from where I live?

Absolutely. Just tell Marsh where you want to search — for example, "I'm looking for design roles in Lisbon" — and Marsh will prioritize jobs in that location for the rest of the Thread. You can also set a preferred location in the filter panel. Your profile location and your job search location don't need to match.

Q. Does Metaintro track my location in real time?

No. Metaintro never uses GPS, continuous tracking, or any background location detection. We only know the locations you've actively mentioned in Threads or entered in your profile. What's in your Locations list in Settings is exactly what you've shared — nothing more.

Q. How do I remove my location data?

You can remove locations individually from Settings → Locations anytime. For a complete data removal, including any historical references, email support@metaintro.com and we'll handle it for you.
