The Welder I performs highly skilled welding and fabrication on various metals, including exotic metals and new alloys, with expertise in thin-wall materials, full-penetration welds, purging chambers, and nondestructive inspection. The role also involves setting up complex assemblies, supporting lower-grade welders and automatic welding equipment, developing welding techniques, and training employees. Candidates must have prior professional welding experience, a high school diploma or GED, and the ability to weld materials as thin as 0.005 inch.
