Description
The ASL Medical Interpreter provides clinical American Sign Language interpretation for Hurley Medical Center’s deaf, hard-of-hearing, and deafblind patients, families, and hospital associates. The role interprets between patients and medical providers, educates staff on language-access requirements, documents interpreting services in electronic medical records, supports quality improvement, and serves as a resource to health professionals. It requires an associate degree or equivalent interpreting and deafness experience, a Michigan medical/mental health endorsement and DeafBlind endorsement, Michigan registration, a valid Michigan driver’s license, and three years of customer-service experience including two years of ASL interpreting experience.
