OpenAI is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to improve Codex agents on real software engineering tasks and close the gap between research capability and production usefulness. The role involves designing agent behaviors, running evaluations, improving prompting and tool-use strategies, analyzing production failures, building feedback and data systems, and collaborating with research, infrastructure, and product teams. Candidates should have experience with machine learning or LLM-powered products, strong Python skills, and experience with model evaluation, fine-tuning, or prompt design.
