AWS is hiring an Applied Optimization Expert to join the Onhand Packing Science team and design, implement, and scale decision-making algorithms that optimize EC2 instance placement and capacity use. The role combines mathematical modeling, exact and heuristic optimization, statistical analysis, software implementation, production A/B testing, and cross-functional leadership. It requires a PhD in a relevant field, at least six years of relevant research or industry experience, publications, and experience with large-scale data and programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java. The position is based in Seattle, Washington, with a base salary of $167,100 to $226,100 annually.
