Description
The Funeral Service Assistant works under the direct supervision of a licensed Funeral Director or Embalmer to arrange and carry out preparation, memorialization, burial, and cremation services for client families. Responsibilities include consulting families, presenting service options, completing required documents, coordinating with clergy and other service providers, scheduling visitations, assisting with deceased preparation and casketing, directing attendees, transporting families, arranging remains shipments, and responding to first-call removals. The role requires active enrollment in a mortuary school or program, the ability to pass applicable board exams, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 100 pounds and exposure to chemicals and bloodborne pathogens.
