HSBC is hiring an Associate Director, Software Engineering Specialist to lead technical design, mentor engineers, and provide hands-on code reviews across architecture, data, platform, security, and product teams. The role focuses on integrating LLM/GenAI capabilities, building and operating scalable Python/FastAPI backend services and APIs, designing data pipelines and knowledge-retrieval systems, and establishing production engineering practices including testing, observability, security, and incident management. It requires significant senior backend engineering experience, strong Python and API skills, distributed-systems and database expertise, cloud-native and security engineering experience, and the ability to lead design discussions in a regulated environment.
