GitLab is hiring a Backend Engineer for its Chat Engine team to build and maintain the backend for GitLab Duo Chat, an AI-powered conversational experience. The role focuses on Python-based agentic runtime development using LangGraph and the Flow Registry, integration with the GitLab Rails monolith and GraphQL API, secure and performant feature delivery, testing, code review, technical debt reduction, and on-call support. Candidates should have production Python experience, Ruby on Rails proficiency or willingness to learn, API and GraphQL experience, agent orchestration knowledge, and experience working on a remote, globally distributed team.
