Description

Airbyte is hiring a Backend/Platform Engineer to build and operate the AI runtime that enables production-grade AI agents to retrieve enterprise context, coordinate connectors and tools, execute multi-step workflows, validate evidence, enforce permissions, and recover from failures. The role owns features from prototype through production, requires 7+ years of software engineering experience, and is onsite four days per week in San Francisco, California.

Required Previous Experiences: 7+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems
Backend engineering and distributed systems design
Complex systems involving APIs, asynchronous workflows, concurrency, queues, state, retries, or distributed execution
Production applications using LLMs, agents, RAG, tool calling, or MCP
Orchestration systems, workflow engines, developer platforms, or infrastructure products
Preferred Qualifications: Agent infrastructure, agent platforms, or evaluation systems
LangGraph, Temporal, MCP, or similar orchestration technologies
Retrieval systems, vector search, search infrastructure, or knowledge graphs
Developer tools or platform infrastructure
Kafka, Iceberg, Postgres, Spark, or modern data warehouses
Early-stage product architecture and technical direction
