Description
The Building Inspector performs building inspections and plan reviews for compliance with International, Uniform, and National building codes adopted by Elko County. Responsibilities include issuing building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits; evaluating construction plans; determining setbacks and zoning compliance; writing correction notices; and communicating with applicants, contractors, architects, engineers, and the public. The role requires a valid Nevada driver’s license, at least three years of public or private building-inspection experience plus four years of progressive construction experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience, and ICC or IAPMO inspector credentials. The position involves outdoor work, travel to inspection sites, and physical activities such as crawling in confined spaces, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 75 pounds.
