Sperry Rail is hiring a Certified Trainee/Apprentice to become a Certified Professional Operator in the Rail Flaw Detection non-destructive testing industry. The role involves paid hands-on training at the Connecticut-based Sperry School of Rail Flaw Detection, followed by extensive field experience and travel throughout eastern or western United States for extended 3–4 month assignments. Responsibilities include learning rail detection methods, ultrasonic testing, equipment setup and troubleshooting, railroad safety procedures, and crew collaboration. A high school diploma or GED, valid driver’s license, basic computer proficiency, and the ability to work independently are required; previous NDT, railroad, or mechanical experience is preferred. Compensation is $20 per hour during paid training and $60,000 annual base salary after certification and promotion to Certified Operator, with travel and lodging expenses paid.
