Description
The Civil Deputy serves civil documents and executes court orders, including writs of execution, distress warrants, protection orders, small-claims notices, and notices to vacate. The role also manages sheriff’s sales, tax collection, property sales, foreclosures, executions, and statutory-fee collection; coordinates with plaintiffs; serves eviction notices; removes people and property; documents collected funds; and provides professional public service. The position requires a high school diploma or GED, one year of customer service, collection, or property management experience, and a valid South Dakota driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 90 days. It is performed in an office, vehicle, and outdoor field environment, with physical demands including lifting up to 20 pounds unassisted and 40 pounds with assistance.
