Description
The Freight Train Operator manages and operates freight trains safely and efficiently, including locomotive operation, freight-car placement, train makeup and breakdown, and communication through hand signals and radio. The role works outdoors in all weather, follows railway and Federal Railroad Administration rules, and operates on an irregular 40-hour week with two consecutive days off. A high school diploma, valid driver’s license, mechanical aptitude, and attention to detail are required; shift rotation, weekends, and holidays may be required. Compensation is $38.34–$47.92, with healthcare, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement contributions, tuition reimbursement, and Federal Railroad Retirement benefits.
