The Controls Engineer will own motion control from command to actuator, modeling and identifying robot axes and arms, diagnosing resonances and nonlinearities, designing and tuning current, velocity, position, feedforward, notch, loop-shaping, and force/impedance controllers, and selecting and commissioning motors, drives, encoders, and sensors. The role requires at least three years of controls engineering experience on physical electromechanical systems, strong control theory and system-identification skills, robot-arm and dynamics expertise, Python analysis ability, and real-time control coding in C, C++, or Rust. The position is based on-site in San Francisco, five days per week, with six days during crunch time.
