Description
The Cytotechnologist performs independent cytology screening, specimen accessioning and preparation, staining, microscopic interpretation, quality control and assurance, documentation, equipment maintenance, and support for pathology reporting. The role screens and interprets gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens, refers presumptively positive or quality-control cases to pathologists, provides onsite adequacy support for procedures such as FNA, EBUS, and EUS, and may teach staff or students and assist the Section Manager with cytology operations. Duties may occur in the laboratory or at remote clinical locations.
