Description

The Database Administrator will administer, secure, monitor, tune, back up, recover, and support ALMA's production Oracle database platforms, including RAC, Grid Infrastructure, ASM, GoldenGate, and related technologies. The role also supports other relational databases, coordinates with system and data teams, participates in incident response and maintenance, and contributes to automation and observability. It is based primarily in Santiago's Central Office with periodic visits to high-altitude operations facilities and occasional travel.

Additional Information

Minimum Education: University degree in Computer Science, Computing Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely related discipline.
Required Previous Experiences: At least 2 years of experience in database administration or related database support activities, including installation, configuration, monitoring, backup and recovery, troubleshooting, and performance management.
Preferred Qualifications: Academic coursework, internship experience, or initial professional exposure to database administration, preferably involving Oracle databases.
Exposure to Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Oracle Linux.
Competency in Oracle RAC and high-availability database environments.
Oracle, SQL, Linux, or Red Hat training or entry-level certification.
Oracle Database Administrator Certification for Oracle 12c or newer.
Experience with database backup and recovery using Oracle RMAN.
Experience in high availability, replication, database security, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
Experience with scripting and automation, preferably Bash and Python.
Familiarity with monitoring and observability technologies such as Prometheus, InfluxDB, Grafana, or Elasticsearch.
Knowledge of XML, web technologies, markup languages, and integration interfaces.
Knowledge of the ALMA data model, scientific archives, or astronomy-related data systems.
Knowledge of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
Knowledge of Docker containers.
