Description
The Diabetes Educator provides professional outpatient care to diabetic patients in a physician office and hospital outpatient clinic setting. Responsibilities include assessing patients, explaining disease processes and care plans, instructing patients on insulin and meal plans, delivering individual and group diabetes education, administering medications, making referrals, communicating with physicians, participating in nursing committees and research, maintaining current knowledge, and assisting with CPR and emergencies. The role requires either a nursing degree with a Michigan license and previous diabetic-teaching experience, or a dietetics degree with two years of diabetic-teaching experience; diabetes-education certification is preferred.
