Description
The Lead Teacher plans, organizes, and monitors classroom activities and educational programs for a Head Start Center. Responsibilities include developing lesson plans, administering health and developmental screenings, assessing and documenting children’s progress, referring children with suspected problems, maintaining safe and sanitary facilities, conducting home visits, involving parents, preparing reports, and supporting staff and community relationships. The role requires an AA degree or related early childhood education coursework, an Infant/Toddler CDA, knowledge of early childhood development and teaching practices, and the ability to supervise classroom staff. The position also requires background, child abuse and neglect, and drug screenings, and involves physical work including lifting 55 pounds, standing, and frequent bending, kneeling, and squatting.
