Description
The Elevator Inspector inspects new and existing elevators, escalators, vertical platform lifts, and dumb waiters to verify compliance with applicable building and safety codes. The role issues compliance or noncompliance certificates, investigates complaints, recommends repairs, maintains inspection records, communicates findings to owners and contractors, and submits reports to authorities having jurisdiction. The position reports to a Regional Inspection Supervisor, requires field travel, and demands physical work involving climbing, balancing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in varied and potentially hazardous environments. Candidates must hold a Certified Elevator Inspection License through NEASA International or the QEI Training Fund, additional AHJ licenses or certifications, and the ability to use laptops or tablets for reporting.
