Description

The Embedded CPU Engineer will join Apple’s Platform Architecture team to define and optimize embedded CPUs for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and other products. The role focuses on analyzing embedded workloads, identifying microarchitecture bottlenecks, exploring ISA and system-level improvements, and collaborating with software, algorithm, and CPU design teams to balance performance, power, timing, and area. The engineer will also develop or improve performance models, simulators, and analysis tools.

Additional Information

Minimum Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar field
Required Previous Experiences: CPU architecture or microarchitecture experience
Experience with performance simulation environments and workload analysis or optimization
Experience with ARM, RISC-V, or x86 instruction set architectures
Experience with C, C++, or similar programming languages
Experience with Python or Perl for analysis and automation
Preferred Qualifications: Master of Science or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
10+ years of industry experience in CPU architecture or performance analysis
Expertise in CPU microarchitecture, including branch prediction, prefetching, pipeline optimization, datapath, or memory hierarchy
Experience with embedded ML workloads, SIMD/vector architectures, or compiler infrastructure and toolchain development
Experience with real-time operating systems and embedded software constraints
Understanding of power-performance trade-offs, system-level power management, and low-power design techniques
Strong communication and collaboration skills across hardware and software teams
Experience taking architectural ideas from concept through implementation
