The Emergency Medical Dispatcher communicates by radio with responding personnel, relays hazard information, verifies medical-patient locations and callback numbers, assesses emergency severity using EMD checklists, accesses security and special-operations databases, and maintains CAD logs and status records. The role requires U.S. citizenship, federal employment suitability, a security clearance, EMD and Telecommunicator I certification, and 24/7/365 availability, with potential shifts of up to 16 hours. Qualification levels GS-04 through GS-07 specify general or specialized federal, private, or public-sector experience, or equivalent education.
