USRA and the Science and Technology Institute are hiring a full-time Mechanical Engineer to design, fabricate, assemble, and test machines and instruments for X-ray optics fabrication, calibration, and metrology. The role supports NASA Marshall Space Flight Center’s X-ray Astronomy Group and involves optical hardware development, machine and instrument control software, data analysis, technical reporting, and collaboration with NASA, academia, and industry. The position is based in the Huntsville, Alabama area and requires an MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, along with experience in machine and instrument development, proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or equivalent scientific software, and CAD proficiency.
