Description

The Department of Rail & Public Transportation is hiring a full-time Engineering Manager to lead engineering, design, safety, construction oversight, compliance, and professional-services activities for rail, roadway, multimodal, and transit capital projects. The role supervises engineering staff, manages consultants and contracts, supports project readiness and stakeholder coordination, and may work from the Richmond or Alexandria offices in a hybrid arrangement. Candidates must have civil and transportation engineering experience, professional engineer licensure in Virginia, and a degree in civil engineering or a closely related discipline.

Additional Information

Minimum Education: Degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline, or equivalent combination of education and directly relevant transportation engineering experience consistent with Commonwealth requirements.
Required Previous Experiences: Professional experience with civil engineering principles and practices applicable to transportation infrastructure.
Professional experience with transit engineering and facility design.
Professional experience with roadway design and construction practices.
Experience developing and validating project cost estimates, schedules, scope, risk, and project readiness.
Experience managing A/E and project or construction management consultants.
Experience leading or managing staff performing complex engineering duties
Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with FTA- or FRA-funded capital projects and federal project-delivery requirements.
Familiarity with alternative project delivery methods.
Familiarity with transportation safety programs and transit safety.
Familiarity with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code.
Knowledge of railroad engineering and active railroad construction.
Proficiency with project management, scheduling, document management, GIS, and engineering software.
Project management or construction management credentials such as PMP or CCM.
