Scale AI is hiring a hands-on Engineering Manager for its Frontier AI Infrastructure team within Public Sector Engineering. The role is 50/50 between managing and growing a small team of engineers and performing meaningful coding, including reviewing pull requests and debugging production issues. Responsibilities include leading the model inference layer, setting technical direction, managing on-call and incident processes, partnering with Product and customers, and designing secure, scalable cloud-native backend systems. Candidates must have at least 1–2 years of direct people-management experience, an active Secret clearance with willingness to up-level to TS/SCI with CI Poly, and the ability to work 3–4 days per week from the Washington DC office. The full-time position offers a base salary of $213,600–$267,000 USD plus equity and benefits.
