Description

North Wind Services is seeking an experienced Engineering Technician V to join their team at the National Ignition Facility (NIF) in Livermore, CA. This full-time position involves operating, installing, maintaining, and modifying NIF facility and utility systems, ensuring they align with design specifications and safety standards. The technician will work in a 24/7 operational environment, requiring adherence to strict schedules and the ability to handle both routine and emergency maintenance tasks.

Required Skills

Operating and maintaining NIF facility support systems and technical equipment.
Hands-on experience in facilities installation, operations, maintenance, and repair.
Proficiency in using tools for installation, testing, and repair of facility and utility systems.
Experience in anticipating, identifying, and resolving facility and utility issues.
LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) processes
Excellent customer service and communication skills, capable of independent or collaborative teamwork.
Ability to interpret detailed drawings and blueprints.
Operate facility support systems like process utility, specialty air, vacuum, cooling, and pressurized gas systems.
Plan and execute mechanical inspections, corrective and preventive maintenance, and installation projects, ensuring compliance with design and regulatory codes.
Assess and ensure proper maintenance of building and utility systems via review of existing management processes.
Participate in quarterly NIF outages for utility and facility maintenance.
Utilize test equipment (voltmeters, ohmmeters, etc.) and power/tools for troubleshooting, installation, and maintenance.
Maintain accurate logs and reports on facility and utility systems.
Compliance with ES&H regulations and procedures, fulfilling integrated safety, security, and property management duties.
Computer proficiency, including control system computers and maintenance tablets.
Basic computer skills.
Knowledge of CMMS.
Knowledge of NEC and local/state electrical codes.

Additional Information

Required Previous Experiences: Strong background in operating and maintaining NIF facility support systems and technical equipment.
Exceptional ability in supporting previous large complex mechanical distribution systems and associated equipment.
Preferred Qualifications: Basic computing skills
Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and local, state and deferral electrical codes.
