Description

Avalara is hiring a Senior DevOps Engineer to own and operate an enterprise-grade AI workflow infrastructure centered on n8n and related automation tools. The role covers environments, CI/CD, containers, Kubernetes, networking, secrets, security governance, observability, SLOs, reusable platform patterns, and alignment with Avalara’s Software Maturity Model. The engineer will also mentor engineers and citizen developers, apply AI tools to improve reliability and delivery, and raise DevOps and AI maturity across teams. The position requires a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field and 5–8+ years of DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering experience, with cloud, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, Linux, networking, and monitoring expertise. Base pay ranges from $126,000 to $244,000 annually depending on location, with an annual bonus opportunity.

Additional Information

Minimum Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
Required Previous Experiences: 5–8+ years of DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering experience for SaaS or large-scale distributed systems with production environment ownership
Experience with a major cloud provider, including VPC design, security groups, load balancers, and managed Kubernetes or equivalent container orchestration
Hands-on Infrastructure as Code experience with Terraform or equivalent for multi-environment infrastructure and platform services
CI/CD pipeline ownership with automated testing, security scanning, and artifact management for complex services or platforms
Experience with Linux or Windows, networking fundamentals, and secure secret management
Hands-on experience with logging and monitoring stacks and defining SLOs and alerts for production systems
Experience running or supporting multi-tenant or shared platforms used by multiple teams
Experience using AI tools in day-to-day engineering or operations with clear impact on speed, reliability, or quality
Preferred Qualifications: Experience mentoring and supporting citizen developers new to agentic AI and automation concepts
Track record of raising reliability, security, or automation standards through documentation, mentoring, or governance
