Description
The City of Abilene is hiring an Equipment Operator Trainee/I/II to perform stormwater drainage and flood-control maintenance under direct supervision. The role operates and maintains construction, landscaping, transportation, and stormwater equipment; performs street sweeping, herbicide application, mowing, vegetation and creek-bed maintenance, concrete drainageway repairs, minor preventive maintenance, and emergency on-call support. Higher-level duties include operating boom/crane trucks, wheel loaders, skid steers, and tracked excavators, with advanced drainage work such as grade shooting, concrete form setting, and basic welding. The position requires a high school diploma or GED for the trainee level, a Class B Texas CDL, and up to two years of relevant equipment-operation experience depending on level.
