The Heavy Road Maintenance Equipment Operator operates and maintains heavy road construction and maintenance equipment, including grading dirt roads, maintaining ditches, hauling materials, patching highways, flagging traffic, and clearing debris. The role requires knowledge of equipment operation, safety rules, county geography, defensive driving, road construction, and communication skills, along with a Georgia driver's license and experience typically gained through an apprenticeship, internship, or one to two years in a similar position. The work is outdoors and physically demanding, with exposure to noise, dust, machinery, and inclement weather, and requires pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.
