New York County Defender Services is hiring an Immigration Staff Attorney for its Immigration Unit in Manhattan. The role advises and strategizes with trial attorneys and clients to avoid negative immigration consequences, provides immigration support at arraignments, advocates before judges and assistant district attorneys, conducts jail visits and accompanies clients to ICE appointments, manages a high-volume caseload, presents training, and supervises law student interns. The position also may involve representation before Immigration Courts and assistance with affirmative USCIS benefits. Applicants must be fluent in Spanish, have at least three years of immigration law experience involving criminal law, and be admitted to practice law in New York State.
