Description

The Backend Lead will own the core backend for a mobile-first social and dating startup, leading 4–5 senior backend engineers and reporting to the CEO. The role combines hands-on Ruby on Rails development with architectural ownership, performance and reliability improvements, caching and database strategies, AWS infrastructure, API stability, deployments, and production incident response. It is a fully remote B2B contract with a base salary up to $120,000 USD per year and additional bonuses, vacation, and team-trip benefits.

Additional Information

Required Previous Experiences: 8+ years of professional backend development experience in production environments, including recent backend team leadership
Experience owning backend architecture for a mobile-first, consumer-facing application
Experience building and scaling high-traffic systems with over 10,000 daily active users
Cloud experience, preferably AWS, with DevOps and infrastructure engineering collaboration
Preferred Qualifications: Background in a startup or fast-moving product company
Strong product mindset and ability to connect technical decisions to business outcomes
Comfort leading a fully remote, distributed team
