Description

The Backend Lead will own the core backend for a mobile-first social and dating startup, leading 4–5 senior engineers and reporting to the CEO. The role combines hands-on Ruby on Rails development with architectural ownership, performance and reliability improvements, caching and database strategies, AWS infrastructure, API stability, deployments, and production incident response. It is a fully remote B2B contract with a base salary up to $120,000 USD per year and additional bonuses and benefits.

Additional Information

Required Previous Experiences: 8+ years of professional backend development experience in production environments
Recent experience leading backend teams
Experience owning backend architecture for mobile-first consumer apps
Experience building and scaling high-traffic systems with over 10,000 daily active users
Practical cloud experience, preferably AWS
Preferred Qualifications: Strong hands-on Ruby on Rails expertise
Understanding of distributed systems, relational databases, caching, and performance optimization
Collaboration with DevOps and infrastructure engineers
Communication with non-technical stakeholders
Background in startups or fast-moving product companies
Product mindset and business-outcome orientation
Comfort with remote distributed leadership
