Klarna is hiring a general Lead Engineer to build and own systems that move money, make defensible technical and architectural decisions, optimize for reliability, auditability, controls, and business outcomes, and set standards for AI use in everyday engineering. The role involves mentoring engineers, leading initiatives across teams without formal authority, and operating in a regulated-banking environment. Candidates should have experience building and operating reliable, scalable systems, ideally in Java, JavaScript, or Python, and should be comfortable with ambiguity and complex systems. The role is not tied to one fixed team and may be placed in domains such as risk or checkout; most teams meet in the office two to three days per week.
